Cats Best Universal - completely changed??

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing with Cat's Best Universal as I have.

I've just opened a new bag and the pellets have completely changed size, colour and appearance.

Before (on the top in the photo) they were soft and light. Now they're hard and a bit sharp and shiny.

I'm not sure my kittens will even use them, they're quite fussy.

Is this because it's wood and this is just a natural fluctuation in the kind of wood used? Or should I complain?

Definitely the same packaging, I double-checked.

How annoying that this might happen again though, is there a better brand of wood pellets you'd recommend?

Luckily I complained to Zooplus and they've given me a refund.
