Cat diabetes

It's looking like one of my 13 year old ginger boys is diabetic. He's lost 2 kg in the last couple of months, drinks and wees a lot and is always crying for food. Took him to the vets this morning, nothing obvious so agreed to do bloods. She also did a quick blood glucose test which was very high so it's looking like that's the cause. We had a quick chat about diabetes management in cats, I could probably manage the injections as he's pretty compliant. But the cost of diagnosis, getting the meds right and ongoing medication fills me with dread (not to mention what we would do when we go on holiday). Unfortunately he's not insured (I insured my dogs but for some reason not the cats). I could probably cover the costs, but it would be at the expense of other things. So even though we don't have all the results yet, there's a lot to consider. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Thanks.

Hi @ViciousChicken just found you post after searching. In a similar position and wondering if you've made any progress on diagnosis and treatment?

Following too as my cat is looking like he is diabetic too.

I had a diabetic cat, but it was many years ago. The daily injections were fine, and while I panicked a bit the first few times when he had a low blood sugar episode I soon learned how to deal with it myself at home. I don't remember much in the way of ongoing treatment. However, as I said it was many years ago, and I'm not in the UK where it seems vets are determined to get as much money out of their clients as they possibly can.

If he's diabetic once stable get written prescriptions for the insulin. Then buy it online cheaper
