Missing cat. So concerned.

Sadly I wish I wasn't making this post.... My cat has been missing since Thursday early hrs when I last saw him jump out about 1-2am. He's very timid and it's unlike him to be gone this long and go far. I'm worried I'll never find him or anybody else as he's probably hidden or been injured and hidden himself. He's microchipped and I've made sure his details are updated and it's logged that he's missing, I've contacted local vets, social media and will be putting up posters. We've been out each night walking all locally calling him to no avail and are very worried. We live on main roads but nobody has found him including us. My theory is he's been injured by whatever and gone off to hide himself and died so it'll be hard to ever find him. Usually every little noise or spook makes him come running home so this is very worrying. It's agonising not knowing what's happened to him.

I can't see that he's gotten into a garage as he went out about 1/2am when I last saw him and it's unlikely anybody would have a garage open at that time and also they would most likely have opened it again by now and he'd have come out. He's also scared of many objects such as our kitchen bin, cardboard boxes etc let alone going in garages. I can't understand what's happened, it's like he vanished into thin air. I can't believe nobody has seen him or he hasn't come out to us calling him. He wouldn't have been stolen as he is too timid and aggressive to go near, and I doubt he got into a vehicle either for the same reason and the sort of time he went missing. I 100% think he's hidden and died unfortunately and am broken. Nobody has reported him as deceased yet thankfully so am stumped. Nobody has seen him, potential sightings but they were another cat. He's tabby so blends in well to bushes etc.

Some stories are reminding me of daft cats we've had. Current cat no3 can't use the cat flap, we're going to Scotland for a holiday, everything in the car for our 6 hour journey, realised he was t in. This was 11am ... called and called him ~ nothing ... little monkey strolled in at 7pm!! DH still insisted on driving up to Scotland, we arrived at 2am 🤯
A different cat was a bit daft, real attitude but a bit pathetic compared to his sister ... he was gone all night, I was up at 5am calling him, heard distant meows, stupid cat had been stuck up the neighbours Y shaped tree, DH had to get on the wheelie bin to reach him 🤪
Good luck OP

Thank you, I hope he comes back too. He was very clingy with me and my shadow so it's been quiet around here 😔

Lol that sounds like something my boy would do 😂 bless

She was lovely but not the smartest cat in the world - she also got herself stuck behind a skirting board as a kitten Grin

I'm sure he'll turn up, please don't give up hope. They can (and do) wander for days without any apparent harm coming to them. Mine went for 3 and 4 days respectively and came back starving but otherwise perfectly unharmed - little buggers!

Aww bless her, I bet you were amazed when you found her lol. Thank you, I'm worried sick. I've seen they can take months to come back!

I was positive my cat either would or would not return but after 5 days he was back, a bit hungry mind.

I think summer is worst for it as it's so warm out. I had a friend whose cat would disappear for weeks every summer - obviously out hunting in the fields or going elsewhere for meals as he never turned up hungry, lol.

Concerned2024 · 24/06/2024 03:03

He came home! I absolutely cannot believe it. We got a call from someone really late after seeing our flyers saying they saw my cat on the other side of the busy city about 0.7 miles away so I was surprised as I honestly thought he was hiding somewhere quiet because he's so timid. My partner went out to look for him straight away and I stayed at home and I hear him turn up meowing. I was amazed, he must have been having fun and not been lost as he found his way here straight away after the call which was clever as he honestly is never far at all, I truly didn't think it would be a happy ending.... I'm so grateful and thankful he's safe and well. He's very tired but was very hungry and thirsty with a bit of cobweb in his whisker but seems fine. Thanks to everyone who's given advice and support, it's the best thing ever and I'm so relieved. I hope this gives hope and comfort to others who are currently going through this as this was really unlike my boy to do and I thought it impossible yet he went missing for almost 96hrs 😍

Yay, I am so happy for you that your rascal is back!

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/06/2024 07:13

I told you he'd be back Grin

He was probably having the time of his life out gallivanting lol.

Babycatsmummy · 24/06/2024 07:22

Fabulous news to wake up too!

My cat gave me a good morning present by puking on my window ledge so he better go missing for a few hours 😂😂

Concerned2024 · 24/06/2024 07:46

Thank you all. I'm so happy and finally relieved, whilst he's been having a lot of fun by the sounds it 😂

I think we need to see a photo of the wee gallivanter 😻😻😻

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 24/06/2024 08:27

Little devil! But so pleased he’s home safe and well @Concerned2024. They almost do, do that. And have no idea of the worry they’ve caused!

Just think of him as an extra child now, well cat child! 🙂

Hurrah! Brilliant ending to a horrible few days for you! Bet naughty pussycat is getting lots of fuss and treats!😸

Iamacatslave · 24/06/2024 08:59

Excellent news. So please he had returned home.

Floralnomad · 24/06/2024 09:04

Excellent news

Bax765 · 24/06/2024 09:21

Ahhh I'm so glad he is home! My cat went missing for 2 and a half weeks once - I'd almost given up hope and then one night he strolled back in, thin and hungry but otherwise fine. I think they enjoy panicking us 🙄

Bet you are so relieved! 😁

Concerned2024 · 24/06/2024 10:30

Thanks all. I am so happy and lucky to have him back, at least he's had a good time lol 😆 he has had lots of fuss and treats and been cuddly with me 🥰 nothing better than having him back in my arms. Here's the cheeky sod

Ah what a lovely update! I came here to say my boy went missing for 2 weeks, came back very injured, but that’s a whole other story! When I was young, our cat went missing for 8 months … came back very thin and straggly, we assumed he’d been locked in a garage or similar.

Cattery · 24/06/2024 10:56

He’s adorable. Naughty puss! 🥰

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 24/06/2024 11:22

This may be a slight generalisation and happy to be proved wrong but are tabbies a bit feral/wilder than other breeds? Due to them originally being bred I think from ummm tabbies?!

My DCat’s sister was tabby and her owners said she was “a bit feral”. Ended up living 1-2 bus rides away or a car ride away and old owners only knew when a vet scanned her and mentioned where she’d gone. As her DSis cat adopted me over lockdown and now permanently (all cleared with owners) it was mostly due to their new dog, whom old owners swore she liked, it was definitely tolerated by my cat though, she’s petrified of dogs!

Definitely not true 😆😆
I think it’s just sayings/beliefs/old wives tales we all go along with .. a bit like boys are boisterous and grubby, girls are angelic and sweet 🤔😬😄

Ahhh I did think so!!! 😂🙂. wonder who started that silly old wives tale! Mind you countless times a black cat 🐈‍⬛ crossed my path and no luck 🍀 came to me bah! 😂

My DCat is half tabby and white and I’ve never met a cat like her who loves sleeping and being near people as she does. She’s a mean mouser too though.

He does look unrepentant! But hopefully enjoying cuddles and treats as much as you enjoy giving them!😻
