Best pet insurance

I want to get our new 7 month old kitten insurance. Petplan is £24 a month! I never realised that male kittens cost quite a bit more than female to insure. Anyone recommend somewhere a bit cheaper?

Does your vets practice recommend a particular one?

Tesco is fab!

I use many pets, who also have a 24 hour virtual vet service included. I pay £27 per month, but that's the top tier cover.

We have never bothered with insurance. DCat has never been to the vets apart from to be spayed.

We use Petplan and although it's pricey they have always been great. Our 15 year old boy now has a long-term condition and they pay out promptly every time for his medication and all his treatment. We pay I think £100 a year excess for the condition and the first 20% of each claim but the medication alone is £50 a month, before we even start on regular blood tests and treatment.

Petplan are worth the extra, imo. We took out insurance with them in September last year (paying monthly) - 4 months later they paid out to the policy limit without so much as a query when our cat broke her pelvis. The only thing we regret in hindsight is only insuring for £4k rather than £7k (treatment came to about £6.5k in total).

Thanks for the replies. He's getting neutered tomorrow, so I'll ask at the vets when i'm there. May still just ended up going with petplan but it is def more than i was hoping for.

I got five weeks free insurance with Paddington, from Agria. His continuation quote is significantly more than I'm paying for both cats with Tesco!
