How often do you all empty the litter tray and what litter do you use please? I mean a full empty/clean out.

Vadercat has Snowflake pine litter and I empty and clean every five to six days. Probably too often but I have OCD.

Catsan and empty it every 5 days, waste scooped immediately though.

marie3e · 29/05/2024 10:47

Every day. I like sanicat, or is it catsan, because it comes in 5 l bags, and i can hardly carry the 10 l ones

Once a month. Intersand classic.

Thanks everyone, we've been using the recycled paper pellets litter and we scoop few times a day but need to do a full empty every 3/4 days due to the overwhelming smell of ammonia. I hear people saying they do the full empty every week to some every month so I wondering why we need to do it so often.

You need to use a better quality litter that locks in the odour.

We use Greenwood's and I emptied the trays completely today for the first time in about four months.

Worlds best… lift clumps/poo two/three times daily and deep clean once a month.. expensive to buy but cheaper in long run.. I used to use the wooden one and wouldn’t go back…

ShouldIbeEmbarrassed · 01/06/2024 15:05

Thank you I'll have a look at Greenwood's and Worlds Best.

Worlds best. Scoop as soon as we see she’s used it (we wfh) and then a deep clean once a month.

Another vote for Worlds Best. Fill the tray quite deep and it easily lasts a month with twice daily removal of clumps/poo.

After much trying and testing I have just changed to Katkin Scoop. It is amazing. It is vegetable based (pea and millet) and has a lovely soft vanilla type scent. After changing previous types of litter every few days because of the smell this litter is a revelation. A deep layer in the tray has just been changed after three weeks. You need to scoop pee and poo regularly and then just replenish the tray with another scoop full. The tray still smells as fresh as day one. I am honestly delighted to have found it after much trial and error. This must sound like an add but I promise I don’t work for Katkin. 😂
