Moved into a new house a few months ago with stairs. Previously in a flat. Cat will not stop scratching the top stair. I've got him scratch posts in the past that he never used. What can I do?? Carpet is getting ruined which is getting me down. Help!

He never really scratched much in the carpet in the flat!

You can get a spray to discourage scratching.
My cat does the doorways if he cannot get in the room.

Have you tried a horizontal cardboard scratcher? My girl was a carpet scratcher but now she has one of these she does it much less.

Were there cats there before you? Might be scenting/territorial scratching.

But some cats prefer horizontal scratching, so it's worth providing a jute mat, coir doormat and/or flat cardboard scratcher.

Try is own similar textured carpet offcut or a coir doormat where he is scratching

Thanks, did you put it in the same place as where she was scratching?

No, just somewhere she spends a lot of time which is the conservatory as she likes the sun!
I bought a wave shaped one from ebay, about £10. She loves it and lies on top of it too which doesn’t look that comfortable but she clearly thinks so.
