Urine smell eliminator?

My cat recently had cystitis, she peed just about every where except her litter tray. No matter what i use I can't seem to get rid of the smell. I've tried various floor cleaners, flash pets, simple solutions cat odor and stain remover but i can still smell it, and with the weather warming up it seems stronger.

Any recommendations on something that will actually get rid of the smell please.

You have my sympathy.
Where exactly is the pee? It is practically impossible to get rid of cat pee smell from carpets or fabrics once it has dried in. The smell always comes back even after multiple washings. We had to strip out all our carpeting after trying everything that you mentioned in your post.

But with hard floors - wood or vinyl - it's a lot easier. Start with diluted bleach, then when that has dried, use ordinary floor cleaner, or a washing up liquid solution. Basically rinse and repeat. I found mopping the floors with bio washing powder in warm water was surprisingly good. Also I've found that cats are much less likely to pee on hard flooring compared to carpet. Since we got hard flooring life has been much easier. Good luck

@Tomatina thankfully she didn't go on the carpet, if the kids left some paper on the floor she would try on there but i was able to stop her. I locked her out of the bedrooms and living room, so thankfully it was on the lino thats throughout the hallway, kitchen and utility room.

I shall just keep at it with the scrubbing every day then. Thank you

You can buy an enzyme eliminator at pet shops. You spray that on the wee to stop the smell. If you can smell it then your cat can do mell it and that's why she's weeing there again. Only enzyme elimination will get rid of the smell so your cat can't smell it.

I used enzyme spray first then warm water with biological concentrated washing up liquid and scrubbed like a mofo when our little dear peed on the bathroom floor. She often misses her tray and I clean it this way too. Seems to work unless we’ve gone nose blind.

BTW in some cats bleach makes them want to pee. They are also very attracted to the smell and as it’s very toxic to cats I would avoid using it. Although it’s fine once dry.

We found Rug Doctor Urine eliminator to be the only thing that works but it takes a lot of it and sometimes several applications. It is good though. You can buy it at B&Q and also Amazon but is a lot more expensive on Amazon.

Good luck.

Biological washing powder or liquid will shift it. Make a strong solution and leave it in place for a while and then wash off.

Fresh Pet cleaner off amazon. Use it neat or diluted and wipe everywhere!

Craftex urine neutraliser. Amazon sell it in 5l bottles.

Even though its meant for human urine, it works just as well on cat pee. Ignore the instructions and use it neat and liberally.

Rspca wee away spray. £2 in b&m

neautralises the smell and works great!

Moongazer23 · 11/05/2024 19:18

Neat vinegar. Something in it that neutralises the enzymes in cat urine. Always worked for me

A lot of options to go with. I'll start at the top and work my way down if its not working out. Thank you all

Sorry - you’ve had lots of suggestions already but I just wanted to add one more! This stuff is amazing for getting smells and stains away, just from Pets at Home. My girl was sick in a cupboard (of course she was) last week and it worked it’s magic really quickly.
