11yr old cat shaking head and falling

For the last couple of weeks my 11 year old girl has been shaking her head in the normal way she does, but falling to the side and losing her balance. She falls to both sides and looks quite scared when it happens.

her eyes aren’t listing, I was concerned it was an ear infection. I also thought maybe vestibular disease. I took her to the vet last week who said she could see an infection in one ear & gave her a 2 week injection of antibiotics plus cat ibuprofen drops to put in her food daily.

Thisbwas 10 days ago and I’m not seeing any improvement. She’s fallen off the dresser and the side of the couch and worryingly she gets herself up into the low roof so we are on edge making sure we get her down as soon as she does.

im worrying it’s something more sinister 😔 does anyone have any experience of this and found out the cause?

Take her back to vets, as with humans sometimes a different antibiotics is needed. Did they check for ear mites? Also get them to check mouth of cat

If the vet could see an infection then it's likely she needs a different type of antibiotics to shift it. If she's been bad for a while then sometimes it can take several attempts as well.

Definitely back to the vet. My cat was displaying neurological symptoms. And I put it down to the medication she's been prescribed for arthritis. She actually had raised pressure in her head.

@Toddlerteaplease how did you find out it was raised pressure? And what sort of neurological signs was your cat showing?

She was acting like she was stoned. She couldn't walk straight. And then couldn't stand at all. Thought it was severe pain. So went to the emergency vet, who thought the same. Until I got a phone call to say she'd started fitting.
