She's got an ulcer on her left eye. Superficial at the moment. But given Magics's issues, I'm not hugely optimistic about it. She on drops and pain relief, and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I just wish the poor girl could get a break. First her ears, then teeth now this.

Once I've got hold of her, she's an absolute angel. My previous three weren't as clever as she is. And cheddar just adored any chance of a cuddle, so didn't run when I picked her up. (God, I miss her)

Her eye is loads better and very nearly healed. To carry on with the drops and review again next Wednesday. Phew!!

That’s great news. She does have beautiful eyes.

OccasionalHope · 08/05/2024 12:15

Wonderful!

gladwhiskers · 08/05/2024 14:09

What a relief! So glad for her - and you of course!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/05/2024 14:17

She was absolutely furious this morning. And turned her back on me when I tried to fuss her, when waiting for the vet. 😂

I've never had a sulker before. 🤣🤣

Send help! I'm all better, and mum is still putting drops in. And this morning put extra drops in my ears. She said they have wax in them. (Sorry pen. Vets orders!)

Toddler, I saw this and thought of you. (it's a Persian). Hope Penelope has recovered from her drops ordeal.

@TemporaryCatSlave that's brilliant!! magic used to lie like that on my fluffy rug. Though she was black and the rug was red. 🤣

15 minutes it took to get the drops in this morning. Little bugger!! Even then I'm not sure it went in!

Glad to hear she's getting better @Toddlerteaplease and giving you the runaround as every self-respecting cat should!🐈

Toddlerteaplease · 13/05/2024 21:17

She didn't get them at all this morning. 🤣🤣 but I'm not to worried as it's completely healed.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 15/05/2024 16:46

Her eye is completely healed and the vet has discharged her!! (For now, anyway) She has been told by the receptionists to stay out of trouble. 🤣

Arghhh. She's squinting again and her left eye looks cloudy. Can't get her into the vet until Monday. (Very surprising) but fortunately I've got metacam and an unopened bottle of drops from last time.

OP posts:
learieonthewildmoor · 01/06/2024 13:47

Hope it clears.

Pudmyboy · 01/06/2024 21:15

Oh no! Poor Pen! Hope it clears up quickly, good planning to have supplies in so you can attend to her quickly @Toddlerteaplease

Toddlerteaplease · 01/06/2024 23:08

Ended up at the emergency vet with her. (See other thread) they also looked at her eye and she does have another ulcer.

OP posts:
Pudmyboy · 04/06/2024 22:15

Oh no! Are eye ulcers quite common in Persians? If I remember rightly Magic had eye problems too? (Sorry if I named the wrong cat!)
I hope Penelope gets better soon 😿

HcbSS · 04/06/2024 22:19

That is one incredibly cute kitty and love her name!

I sympathise OP. Getting eye or ear drops into a reluctant cat by yourself is very difficult without being scratched to death. Although try doing it with a wriggly 5 stone labrador!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/06/2024 22:45

The vet thinks it's due to the shape of her face. Her eyes are quite prominent. So easily damaged. Yes it was magic who lost her eye.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 05/06/2024 01:12

@HcbSS once I've caught her, she's an absolute superstar with them.

"Are eye ulcers quite common in Persians?"
Yes- due to the extreme bracycephaly that is considered desirable by some breeders. Teeth can often be very crowded and rotated too.
https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/pets/brachycephalic/health

If you own a brachycephalic pet, please pay close attention to the appearance of their eyes and bring them to the vet at the first sign of trouble, as OP has done. Eye ulcers can appear very quickly, be worse than they look and progress very quickly too, so vigilance and prompt treatment - as in Penelope's case- gives the best chance of saving the eye. Good luck Pen 🍀
