Rescue cat missing for 9 days

We rescued two cats in January and kept them in for the four weeks as recommended. They were very keen to go outside after the four weeks was up and we took it really slowly, built it up gradually and got them in at night etc.

We installed a catflap as they were doing really well. The younger one took to it straight away and also at the same time discovered the local mouse population. Started bringing us presents. After about a week she was coming in only for meals and a quick sleep and was straight out again, which was concerning me, but always in at night.

Last Friday she went out the catflap at 7pm and she never came back. It's been 7 days now and it's like she's totally evaporated.

I've done all the things you are meant to do, put litter outside, hung dirty washing up, Facebook page, flyers, posters, checked the neighbours and several other housing estates nearby. Nothing.

I'm just bereft. We only had her such a short time. She was only a year old and such a dear little thing. Our other cat is miaowing and looking for her everyday (she doesn't like the catflap and stays indoors mostly).

Is there any hope she will come back?
Edited because I clearly can't add up, it's been 7 days

So sorry you are in this position. It's awful and you think the worst.
We rescued our cat, kept him in for 5 weeks, finally let him out in winter time.
He was fine at first then disappeared for 16 days I didn't think we would ever see him again
Strolled in as if nothing had happened.
It can and does happen a lot with cats.
One thing I did was ring the cleansing department at our council just in case he had been killed on the road.
8 years later he's still as bad, in fact it's a shock if he's at home 😸.
Good luck hope she comes home soon

Thank you.
Still no sign unfortunately. I walked round the entire area on the weekend and put up more posters.
I've contacted the train company as we live within reach of a railway but I haven't tried the council.
It's just so weird. She loved her toys and they're just lying unused as our other cat is not into them.

Dawn and dusk are the best times to go looking for her. Ask neighbours to check sheds and garages.
If she’s a sweet little cat someone might have decided she’s a “stray” and have taken her in.
I hope you get her back soon.

Two of mine have gone missing for several days before - one I got back by going out, calling him and shaking the bag of dreamies at around 10pm (he appeared from next doors' garage), the other we found in a neighbours garden and I had to bribe her out with some cheese.

Have you rang around the vets and asked them to put posters up?

ILoveaSunflower · 08/05/2024 22:08

Yes I've done all of that I'm afraid. She would always come if I banged her bowl with a spoon. I've been bowl banging like a madwoman all over town.

There is always hope, but I totally understand the trauma when they're missing. Do you know anything about their background before they came to you?

Ours went missing for 4 months 😱and then just strolled down the garden path like nothing was wrong, the little scrote. We looked EVERYWHERE for that cat and it reappeared as right as rain with a belly full of worms 🙄.

Keeping everything crossed for you!

In terms of background I only know she was rehomed as an unwanted cat and she's quite young so I don't think she would have had a history of straying. Shes also very timid so would not have approached strangers.
