I haven't had pet insurance before and this is the first claim I have made. It is for £1400 which is a significant amount for me and I can't afford to pay it.

Now the insurance company have come back saying that the birth date provided is different to the one the vet has on record. Quite honestly both dates i gave would have been estimates as the cat was a rescue. But it seems I've put a date 7 months different.

they have stated i need to tell the vet to change the date to the correct one if there one is correct or vice versa.

does anyone know of either of these options will make the insurance invalid?

is it better to say the vet one was wrong or the insurance one?

I'm just quite paranoid about them refusing to pay for this reason!

Asking the vets to change it will be far less hassle!

Ask vet to change and tell insurance vet had added incorrectly to their system, that will be easiest.

Ask the vet to change it and just say they must have typed it wrong.

It shouldn't cause any issues with your insurance I wouldn't think, they just need all the details to match up.

Okay I'll try that, thank you

I almost did that with my cats insurance. I knew her age, but not her DOB so I made one up. Then forgot what it was. Turned out I'd put the correct date that the vet had on record anyway. But if it was wrong. All they wanted was another form filling in.

I've made 3 claims each for 2 of our cats and I'm sure I haven't put down the same DoB each time, I even realised our vet has our oldest down as several months younger. I think it's right now. I've also put various random dates down for the dates we got them as I can never remember the exact date!

I'm sure if you ask your vet to update their side it'll be fine, this must happen a lot with claims.
