I have tried advantage, advocate and still combing at least 10 off each day.
Have sprayed indrodex.

Haven't tried front line as heard its not as good anymore but willing to try anything.
Very difficult to get cat in basket to take to the vet so I need to be able to order online.

Do flea collars work?

Thankyou, u have a fear with the better weather it is gojng to ramp up even more.

I think the vet is your only route left now, how long has the cat had fleas for?

over-the counter flea collars won’t work but there is a prescription one but the vet will need to see the cat before prescribing.

DeeBeeCee · 02/05/2024 08:41

You have to ask your vet to prescribe. Do you never take the cat to the vet? What about vaccines, annual check etc?

GerminateMyParsnips · 02/05/2024 08:43

You need vet prescribed stuff - you won't get anything OTC that is as strong as that, I don't think.

Treat the cat, Indorex in every room - especially the corners of rooms and near skirting etc.

Hoover every day and throw away the hoover contents - into an outside bin.

Hot wash any soft furnishings that can be washed like that, especially cat beds or throws etc.

Keep at the routine for a couple of weeks and you should start to see the little buggers slowly disappear.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/05/2024 08:47

Bravecto, you apply it every 3 months. Nothing else worked for us. Indorex for the house.

sleekcat · 02/05/2024 08:49

I find frequent combing and hoovering to be helpful, at least a part solution. Advantage only seems to work for a week on mine, but I'm not keen to do more frequent doses. Fleas are a nightmare. I have seen them hopping in the grass outside.

Floralnomad · 02/05/2024 10:14

You need prescription strength stuff , all the rest is a waste of money and the indorex can’t really do its job properly if the cat is still dropping active fleas .

BlastedPimples · 02/05/2024 10:18

Bravecto for the cat coupled with Indorex for the room.

AnnaMagnani · 02/05/2024 10:20

Vet for Bravecto. And one can Indorex a room.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/05/2024 10:23

Over the the counter stuff does not work. Fleas have become immune to it. Only the prescription stuff works. I usually have 2 to 4 cats at a time. I dont douse them every month as recommended I do it zbout 4 times a year. I have never had a flea infestation.
Get your home sprayed by a professional company and get some prescription treatment. Your home will be flea free.
It's not cheap but I don't want my home crawling with fleas.

MummySleepDeprived · 02/05/2024 20:37

Nothing works on the pupa stage so even if the treatment worked and will kill new adults and the Idorex got the eggs, any pupa that got missed in the big vaccuum are still going to hatch 12 weeks later.

onefinalhurdle · 02/05/2024 20:40

Get strong hold from the vets - it was the only thing that nuked the fleas

ToastyToes101 · 02/05/2024 21:17

Yep, agree with all of the above. I tried the stuff from pets at home (from the locked cabinet no less!), cats got fleas, so I went to the vets and they said the strength of the stuff they're allowed to sell OTC is a lot less than the stuff you can get from the vets.

We now have Bravecto every 3 months and I also did a big indorex spray (need 2 bloody cans, cost a fortune) but did the whole house, washed as many soft furnishings as possible and it's been fine for well over a year now.

You won't rid them unless you use the strong stuff.

abracadabra1980 · 02/05/2024 23:11

Bravecto has some hideous reactions in some animals. Please Google - I'm sure there's a Facebook group with all sorts of people commenting on the adverse effects it's had. Hope you get sorted.

BlastedPimples · 02/05/2024 23:41

Bravecto is very powerful it's true and some animals react badly to it.

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/05/2024 08:29

Oh dear I have ordered bravecto but worried about a hideaous reaction now especially if it lasts 3 months.

Maybe I should try strong hold first.

All medications can cause potential side effects in some individuals. The number of issues with bravecto are no greater than any other product (from VMD stats) and are massively less than an old over the counter product.
The data sheet is on line for you to read, it is very similar to the data sheet of just about any other flea product out there.
There are more numbers if bravecto reports because the are more numbers of bravecto sold than any other product, but the percentage of reports to product sold in no greater than any other product. You will find similar sites for all the other flea products.

Anniegetyourgun · 03/05/2024 09:04

The rescue we got ours from used Stronghold Plus, and recommended we reapply it every month once they start going outside.

Clarich007 · 03/05/2024 13:55

Bravecto all the way.
Luckily my cat doesn't react to it.It's good stuff.
Hope you get sorted soon

Food grade diatomaceous earth (it's taken me YEARS to learn how to spell, and say, that word!). Sprinkle it on their bed - not on the cat itself - and around any areas where the cat lies. Wear a mask so you don't inhale it.

I tried this and it made no difference at all sadly, I had high hopes for it. I'm all for the natural route but not when it comes to fleas and it is so rotten for the cat let alone having them all over the house.

To add to this , these FB groups are for people who have issues , thousands of dogs and cats have bravecto with no ill effects but nobody sets up a FB. Group to praise a drug .
