Rare example of getting one over on the cat :-)

I've posted on here about how difficult it's been to get my monster to eat, as we're trying to stabilise him on thyroid meds. I've tried just about every conceivable type of wet and dried food. The only things he'll eat with enthusiasm are Lickylix (with his meds) and Dreamies.

However... I've accidentally discovered that if I slip a pile of special dry food onto his evening saucer with Lickylix, Dreamies and meds he'll eat the dried food too, presumably imagining that it falls into the 'treat' category. He won't eat it if I put it in the bowl with the rest of his dried food, or on the floor in front of the bowl where his Dreamies used to go 😂

It seems he's not quite as smart as he thought he was. It will all be okay as long as he doesn't read this 😂

Cats can read?
Why did no one tell me already?

This explains a lot.

And well done shivering.

My cat has trained me to sit next to her so that she'll eat then she runs up to my bed and I follow her with her dish where she then eats the rest. The lickylix and felix soup used to work when she decided she'd gone off what ever food I'd bought once I'd bought 200 sachets of it after she said she liked it.

HumanWetWipe · 26/04/2024 21:06

DCat recognises the 'lickylicks' command.

@Winnading , they think they can read but it says 'DOG' on the bowl and I've had no complaints.

I was going to get personalised bowls for Magic & Maia, until I remembered that they couldn't read. Although Cheddar claimed she could. She would sleep with her head on books.

Oh, they can read that word ok, they are extra pleased because they think they're swiping the dog's food 😈

Dammit woman, I was just about to post exactly the same comment when yours appeared!

HumanWetWipe · 27/04/2024 15:11

There is no DDog.

HumanWetWipe · 27/04/2024 15:28

The big bowl is because they will eat from one bowl even if they have one each.

BlackCat007 · 27/04/2024 15:33

My cat eats from bowls with pics of little bones on them. Ssshhhh

I’m allergic to cats but going from this thread, you cat owners are a fun bunch! Loving it!

BirthdayRainbow · 27/04/2024 15:46

One of my cats eats off a children's plastic plate. My son said he was taking his food from his bowl and putting it on the floor to eat as he had whiskers fatigue. So I bought him flat plates to make it easier for him.

HumanWetWipe · 27/04/2024 15:52

I'm not @LaCouleurDeMonCiel . The DCats are greedy, grabby, entitled tyrants.

My cats are weird in that they aren't fussed with Dreamies so they don't get them. They adore the Dreamies version of lickylix, or even the supermarket own brand version.

I'm also mildly allergic to cats (as well as Ironing! 😉), but having them in my life is easily worth the bunged up nose, sniffles, occasionally itchy eyes etc

CatsonPollock · 28/04/2024 09:23

I have a cupboard full of "well, you used to love this" food. I need to take it to the rescue charity's food bank and then they will, of course, immediately change their minds about it.🙄

We soak unwanted dry food in hot water and put it in the garden for the magpies and crows. DCat likes it then 🙄

We tried giving her the soaked food in her dish but no. It's only edible if being stolen from her arch enemies.

She generally only eats wet food now but changes what she likes on a daily basis. Also on thyronorm but she licks that straight from the syringe, loves it.
