My cat has been found passed away today

Just need to write this down somewhere, my lovely, needy, Velcro 17year old cat has died.

She had gone completely deaf, never left my side, wouldn't use a litter tray so just briefly went outside. Last night she howled to go out and then didn't come back, she still wasn't home this morning. My husband was home from work before me and she was still nowhere to be seen. I had such a bad feeling.

I went out looking for her when I got home, I was just preparing a fb post about her when there was a knock at the door. I clocked her vet polo shirt and started crying. She had been found in someone's garden, they don't know if she had died then been got by something or if something had got her first. She was so deaf so wouldn't have heard anything.

I hope she didn't suffer. She didn't have long left anyway and had really slowed down. She was so loving and had to be constantly on someone's anyones knee.

So grateful to the lady who took her to the vet, at least I know.

Heartbroken

Flowers so so sorry 😞

I'm sorry! I had similar a few years ago with my 23 year old. I got home from work one day and she'd passed on her own. I felt awful thinking I should have been with her.

Now when I look at pics of her (I have one on my kitchen window sill) I just feel so grateful for her life and the time we had together.

Sending you big love and hugs. So sad for you OP. Xx

GoodVibesHere · 12/04/2024 19:01

I'm so very sorry. It hurts so, so much when they go.

I'm glad your cat was found, so that you weren't left wondering where she was. Did you have her from a kitten? I'm sure she had a lovely happy life with you.

thebear1 · 12/04/2024 19:05

I'm sorry for your loss, I hope you can take comfort from the love you gave over the years.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 12/04/2024 19:07

So very sorry to hear that. I've heard that they often go away to die on their own. My friend's very elderly cat did and was found in a neighbours garden. My cats are 15 and 16 this year and I'm dreading the thought of them leaving us. Flowers for you x

I’m so so sorry. I have also been through the sudden loss of adored cats. I understand how immensely painful and heartbreaking it is.

Motnight · 12/04/2024 19:09

I'm so, so sorry to hear this. Mine will be 19 next month and, although she seems fine for now, I have to be realistic. My heart goes out to you.

AppleTreeOwner · 12/04/2024 19:10

Very sorry for your loss OP, hopefully you will remember the love that she gave.

When I viewed the house I am in now, the seller was showing me the garden and we found a cat that had passed away- the cat was in a comfortable posture and clearly had just passed in that spot. My sisters cat, who had heart failure, passed peacefully outside curled up in a flower bed.
So there is a possibility that it was a peaceful passing whilst she was enjoying some fresh air.

I miss my previous cats always, but am glad they were part of our lives.

I'm so sorry - the pain of losing a beloved cat is the worst. I think she was doing what cats in the wild would do-she was following her instincts to the end. It's a cliché, but try to think of all the happy times you had and celebrate her life with you.

Maising · 12/04/2024 19:35

Thank you all, really appreciate you taking the time to comment. It's lovely to know you care and understand.

I'm just so shocked, this time yesterday she had me pinned to the sofa.

My other cat who we rarely see is now sat on my knee. They know don't they?

LlynTegid · 12/04/2024 20:44

Sorry to hear of your cat's death. It will not bring her back, though I hope in some small way knowing soon and the kindness of the person who contacted the vet is a small crumb of comfort.

hockeysticks89 · 12/04/2024 21:39

So sorry about your much-loved cat - she may have sensed it and gone to pass on her own. You may not have been with her when she did - and she may not have wanted you to see that - but you were there by her side all her life and that's what matters.

Maybe in time you can open your heart to another baby? They won't replace your lovely girl but they do lift your spirits x

Pudmyboy · 12/04/2024 23:40

I think this is a very good point by @Runnerinthenight

So very sorry for your loss @Maising , however it happens it's bloody tough 💐

Thank you for the kind words. The miss is huge today, I'm struggling to go in the lounge, she was always there waiting to jump on a knee.
