Maine Coon biting

I have an almost 2year old male MC who I absolutely adore. However if he’s been grooming himself or decides he is about to start grooming he always bites me if I go to stroke him. In fairness he usually gives me a warning “chirp” first so I know to keep away. I was interested to find out if anyone else’s cat does this or if it’s just his quirk. He weighs almost 10kg so if he bites me it’s very painful!!! Picture for cat tax

I have a Marine Coon cross, the weirdest cat I've ever lived with. He came from a rescue. He has an incredibly feisty character, is very clear about what he wants and the bit about being a cat servant is all too true.
When I groom him, he knows where he wants me to groom and he will bite if I'm doing the wrong bit or when he's had enough. I've yelped a few times when bitten and he seems to have understood and it's gentler!
He is incredibly sweet and alarmingly intelligent. He kisses me on the nose and follows me everywhere and tries to understand what I'm doing. He has to go to the cattery shortly because I'm taking a break and he hates it. I'm not looking forward to the sulk when he comes home!

@IthinkIamAnAlien Thank you. I can so relate to your post! My boy definitely is feisty and has a mind of his own. I don’t think he realises just how strong he is. If he’s particularly angry with me he actually pounces on my arm to bite me and it takes me both hands to prise him off. Then in a few seconds calm and peace is restored. Certainly it’s a different experience to live with a MC.
