Indoor cat vanished

Our very shy indoor rescue cat has simply vanished. We've been through every inch on the house with a fine tooth comb and can find no sign of her what so ever. She's two years old and has never been outside and I'm beside myself with worry about her.

I saw her in our living room at approx 2:00am today (couldnt sleep) all the windows and doors were closed however she hasn't been seen since. We have 4 and 6 year old DC who did wake up before us so I can only assume one of them has opened the door for some reason and she's slipped out, there's literally no other explanation.

I have left her litter tray and some food by the back door and we have been out searching but no joy 😢 I don't know what I'm asking really, any ideas about where she could be or what we should do next wellcome, thank you

My cat also hid inside an armchair....there was a small hole in the fabric on the underside. He managed to squeeze under the armchair and through the hole, and then sat completely still and silent while I searched the house and the streets for him.

I had just got to the point of accepting that he was gone, when I heard a yawn come from the armchair!

Also get your neighbours to check all outhouses/check empty properties. My dad once found my mum's missing cat - he was looking out the upstairs window of an empty house!

Yes, this is a really good tip.

IF the cat has got out and not come back (I know you think they can't have got out, but honestly all sorts of things can happen with cats!) then they left the house on a Sunday just after Easter when the weather is warming up. This is exactly when people open their sheds and garages to get gardening tools, do the gardening, and then close the shed up again without checking for curious cats that have wandered in. Then the sheds stay closed all week.

You have leafleted your neighbours, but I unfortunately know from experience that leaflets often get ignored as junk mail. It wouldn't hurt to knock on doors (say 5 houses in all directions) and ask them to check garages and sheds. That's how we found our idiot cat who had done exactly this and was in a shed for 2 days.

P.S. Cats are surprisingly resilient at surviving getting shut into places without food or water - much much more so than humans. I just mention this because I know how stressful this situation can be as a cat owner, and I don't want to add to your worries!

She's back!!! I'm so relieved. She wandered back into the garden late last night and dp just happened to see her eyes shining at the bottom of the garden. Thank you so much for all your help. It's been such a stressful couple of days. She's eating little bits at a time and has had a good drink of water. She has been scratching and grooming herself a lot so she might have picked up some fleas but we've got some front line some where. I'm just so relieved.

BRILLIANT news! So glad she's home! I've been there with my kitty before and can't tell you how stressful it was, so glad it's a happy ending 😃

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 09/04/2024 09:55

Hooray 😀

AliceOlive · 09/04/2024 10:00

💕💕Glad she’s back!

LovedaysPinkGeraniums · 09/04/2024 10:02

Hooray! Now get a collar with an AirTag or something before you let her out properly 😁

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/04/2024 10:05

Phew.

OutOfTheHouse · 09/04/2024 10:50

What a relief.

You need to find out how she got out though. Either there is a gap or someone isn’t telling the truth.

Sux2buthen · 09/04/2024 10:56

Yay! I'm not a cat person but I became invested in this Grin

MaMisled · 09/04/2024 10:59

Wonderful update op!!!! Im so pleased!

TenThousandSpoons · 09/04/2024 11:02

Great news OP!

Haggisfish3 · 09/04/2024 11:03

Hurray! Be warned though-once our indoor cat did this it was very clear she didn’t want to stay an indoor cat anymore! She went out during the day after a similar event but usually came back at night.

MLC13 · 09/04/2024 11:10

Been watching this. So relieved she's back. We've got 2 indoor kitties and would be out of our minds if they got out and went missing. So so so pleased for you and what a beautiful cat 🐈‍⬛

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/04/2024 11:24

So she was out !

now you need to check locks on doors.

Floralnomad · 09/04/2024 11:31

Great news . Don’t use frontline if she has been out it really doesn’t work so go to the vet and get some prescription strength stuff , also worm her and if you think she’s got fleas spray your house with indorex

InTheRainOnATrain · 09/04/2024 11:52

Phew! Have you figured out how she escaped? Don’t use frontline though, it’s shit and fleas develop resistance ages ago. I would call the vet and get their recommended flea and wormer which you should be doing on a schedule anyway even with an indoor cat as you guys could unknowingly bring stuff into the house on stuff like shoes and bags.

HoHoHoliday · 09/04/2024 12:00

I've never been so relieved to see an update! And what a beautiful girl she is 😍
It's time to attach an airtag or similar to her now, but at least now you know she can find her own way home when she goes out again.

AtrociousCircumstance · 09/04/2024 12:29

Aww fab update 🩷 and what a beautiful girl! 🐈‍⬛

LilacpointMummy · 09/04/2024 12:54

So delighted and relieved for you!

SabreIsMyFave · 09/04/2024 13:03

I just searched for your thread before I logged off! I am soooooooooo chuffed for you @Tillmers She is a darling kitty, so cute! I am so glad she has returned. (I had a feeling she would.) Grin

SparklyBracelet · 09/04/2024 13:03

Aaah fantastic!!!! Great news x

Tillmers · 09/04/2024 13:20

Thank you 😁I didn't know that about Front line, I thought it was the good stuff! I'll look into getting something better. We're starting to wonder if our cat flap wasn't locked properly because she was standing next to it meowing earlier. We do open it sometimes for the tumble dryer vent hose thingy. Anyway we will obviously be more careful now, it's good to know she can find her way home at least

Stronghold Plus is the best flea treatment. Prescription only from the vet. X
