Confused about flea treatment

Our cat has stronghold plus from the vet. The vet and the sticker printed out by the vet on the box says to administer every 5 weeks but the information in the leaflet says monthly which to me would be every 4 weeks. Should we listen to the vet or go with the box?

Thank you.

If the vet say every 5 weeks, they will only prescribe every 5 weeks, so if you do it every 4 weeks, you will run out. I deflea all 6 of mine the first Saturday of the month. This works for us and vets know this and has never said anything.

Why not phone the vet up and ask them?

In theory mine are treated every 4 weeks. In reality it's more like every 6 weeks as it ends up being a 2 person job.

LOL, I know what you mean. A hint of the cold droplets and she's off!

Our vet is an old school laid back type which is good but when we first took her I had the feeling she was kind of against flea treatments as preventative measures. She's a lovely lady though. Just wondered if the experts at Mumsnet followed a rule for treatment. My parent's old cat had a flea collar one year and then nothing for the rest of her life and I don't recall there ever being fleas in the house (this was the 80s/90s though).
