Hello all
My cat has had a watery eye over weekend and it looked sore.
Phoned vet (one who comes to our home) and earliest appt is Thurs.
We bought over the counter drops from pets at home on Sunday but wondered if there's anything else we can do in meantime :(

Bath with water and a cotton wool ball, maybe slightly warmish water.

Dry off afterwards.

It’s probably from a fight.

ElmtreeMama · 19/03/2024 19:53

Shes an indoor cat, so no fighting. Will try warm water but she's not that keen on being 'handled' however will try x thank you x

Teabags!

Brew a tea bag, let it cool and bathe the eye with it.

ElmtreeMama · 19/03/2024 19:54

Will definitely try that thank you

Oh how strange. Something must’ve got into or scratched her eye. Hope she feels better soon.

Agree re teabags. Boil kettle, teabag in water and then let it cool. Soak cotton wool in the black tea and bathe.

However, looking at the pic her eye is completely closed which suggests there's something in it or she's scratched the surface. Eye damage is incredibly painful and cats are very good at hiding pain. Can you take her in sooner to be looked at? If not then do you have any metacam to help with the pain?

tsmainsqueeze · 19/03/2024 21:08

Vet nurse here ,i wouldn't wait until Thursday with that but would find someone to see her tomorrow.
Apart from the fact that eye problems can worsen the longer they are left untreated they are usually quite painful.
I hope she is better soon.

I agree, eyes are an emergency

ElmtreeMama · 19/03/2024 21:41

Ok, thank you all 👍 that's very helpful to know

Please don't wait until Thursday. Eyes are an emergency and need seeing the same day.

ElmtreeMama · 19/03/2024 22:43

We won't be, she's an incredibly nervous cat which is why we have a home vet but I'll be phoning the local vet as soon as it opens and will take her in
Thank you all for advice 🙏 her eye is open a little now

This is an emergency. My cat had a couple of serous issues with her eye. She was I. A lot of pain, but masked it really well. Please get him seen sooner.

I'm glad you got her seen - eye ulcers are nasty things.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 20/03/2024 12:30

Poor love. At least she has drops now.

myhouseyourhouse · 20/03/2024 13:39
