The litter tray

It's so hard.

Our 15 year old girl has stomach cancer. She is now so thin and vomiting daily despite anti sickness meds. It looks as though we will be saying goodbye on Tuesday and need to tell the kids (probably after school tomorrow). I was hoping for Friday but even that is too far away now as she is barely eating.

We will never find another cat like her. She is the most placid creature in the world. She will let you hold her like a baby and just purrs constantly. This is breaking my heart. A picture of her in better times.

It's so hard.

She’s a beautiful girl. So sorry OP, we had to say goodbye to our girl last year. She had liver cancer and heart issues. Sadly it was her time (just 13 - wish we’d had longer) and we did her that last kindness and let her go peacefully. Hard as it is , it needs to be sooner than later x

So sorry, it's such a horrible feeling. But the waiting is the worst. When my gorgeous girls were PTS my overwhelming feeling was one of relief, that the decision was made and she was out of pain. It was absolutely heartbreaking, though. But peaceful and dignified. Getting another cat really helped. I still miss her But new cat has helped so much.

I'm so sorry OP, I really do feel for you. She looks just like my girl, who is 14. I know one day we will face the same and, although not in your position atm, I can't bear the thought of her going, so I do understand.

I know it's a cliche but you've given her 15 happy years, or should that be the other way round!

We have already lost her once before

About 10 years ago our neighbours found a cat on the road outside our house and brought her round. We thought it was our girl and took her to my inlaws to be buried the next day. Many tears were shed that evening and a Facebook post put out about what had happened.

Came downstairs next morning and she was sat on the sofa. Her twin was hastily retrieved and taken to the vet for a chip scan but alas with no chip I doubt the owners were located. She was nicknamed lazarus after that.

I’m so sorry. It is hard, the hardest part of being a pet owner. She’s gorgeous and obviously very loved. 💐

Sorry to hear about your girl OP 💔Our 9 year old tabby has just been diagnosed with lymphoma :( he went from absolutely fine (apparently) to being at death’s door. He’s home now after gruelling tests, but will likely need to be PTS in next few days or weeks. Such a horrible, heavy feeling of sadness isn’t it 😓

Thank you. She peacefully crossed rainbow Bridge on Tuesday. I keep seeing her everywhere in her favourite spots. She was very loved. When they weighed her at the vets she had gone from 3kg to 2.2kg in the month since diagnosis. We could have kept her going a bit longer but I didn't want the kids lasting memory to be her in a terrible state. The kids have taken it better than I have.

I am so very sorry about your lovely girl. It's heartbreaking to lose them.

I'm sure you can't even think about it now but I recommend getting another cat fairly soon. Our old boy died aged 20+ we think, and I knew I'd get another cat sooner or later. I lasted 8 weeks before I adopted two more, and have since added a third. I couldn't bear the cat-shaped hole in my life.

They will never replace the cat you adored but they find their own space in your heart and bring joy and fun back.

Hugs xx

You did her the ultimate kindness not letting her starve to death in pain. I had 3 cats and my favourite eldest boy died about 2 years ago now. My other male cat who had been less affectionate before has gradually become very affectionate now. He's turned into a proper velcro cat. Never far from me. My little girl has always been very affectionate.
