New house new cat

Hi all

We moved into our first (owned) house 1 year ago. I really want a pet now we have our own house. DH is in disagreement as he says not the right time when we still have a few jobs to do in the house and thinks the cat will be stressed out. Does he have a point?

Jobs are - new boiler needed (still working but needs to be replaced - job for summer if lasts that long!), redecorating kids room inc reboarding ceiling and plastering. At some point will also be replacing the kitchen.

What are your thoughts, should we wait or just go for it? Would be looking to adopt a single or a bonded pair of adult cats from the rescue and keep it indoors with catio (we have a covered patio) as we live next to a busy road and previous owner planted various poisonous to cats plants in the garden.

Thank you 🐱

I think if the cat won't be an outside cat I would wait until the decorating had been done. If you adopt a nervous cat they would have to get used to the new house and then some changes would happen so that might upset them too. And with all the sanding and dusting going on, it would be stressful for them. I would wait.

Personally I would get the work done first. Some cats would find all that work incredibly stressful, especially if they were also in a new home.

If you already had resident cats then it wouldn't be an issue.
