Cleaning up cat sick

Sorry, rather a gross subject!

Are there any foolproof methods for getting out cat sick stains?

I’ve tried spray on carpet cleaners, biological stain/odour cleaners, leaving on a mixture of biological washing powder, just cold water and a hired a carpet cleaning machine, but there are still marks.

I’ve found that any wet method just spreads the stain no matter how much I wipe in towards the middle, so now tend just wipe up as much as possible with dry kitchen roll and vacuum when dry, but it is just disgusting really.

Let it dry. It's easier to rub it off and hoover up. The scrub with Dr Beckmann cleaner.

I can’t help I’m afraid as cat sick is DH’s domain.

I do, however, have these memes.

The Dr Beckmann cleaner in the white bottle with a blue brush on top is what I was going to recommend.

I cover the vomit with "worlds best" cat litter first to dry it up 😂 (also great for clearing up dog wee)

MagpiePi · 25/02/2024 09:49

Thanks all! 👍🏼

I have found that dried up patches that are in obscure places do seem to leave less of a mark although it feels very slatternly to leave it.
I’ll get some Dr Beckmann’s too.

@cliffdiver That second one is so true! An overnight hoik up at the bottom of the stairs is also a favourite. 🙄

Is it the ordinary carpet cleaner or the Pet stain one?
They are both white with a blue brush!

I just use the ordinary one "carpet stain remover" with a spilling red wine glass on the front.

On one memorable occasion, one of my cats threw up whilst on the window sill, managing to get the sill, the curtains, inside the radiator and the floor. Bastard.

my dog was very, very useful in cat sick situations... 🤢

Remove as much as possible, often helps if it dries first. Then Simple cat stain & odour remover - that stuff is magic. Edited to add: the one in the turquoise bottle.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 25/02/2024 10:16

Scoop up the majority in loo roll. Wipe rest up with a cloth. Then dr Beckmann. Has never failed me.

I shouldn’t laugh, but 🤣🤣🤣

You try and be disgusted by dogs but secretly applaud their complete lack of decency.

I find vanish carpet mousse gets most stains out or vanish also do a carpet powder that comes in a plastic bag and you shake it on the carpet then brush in with a broom and leave for I think 30 minutes
Then just hoover it up

ella142 · 25/02/2024 22:57

I wipe the bulk of it off with kitchen roll, and then use Dr Beckman's stain remover or Vanish carpet cleaner, either seem to work OK and we don't have any long term stains.

BookShark · 25/02/2024 23:05

Pampers wipes. As recommended by the John Lewis carpet man. You can have a good scrub without wrecking the pile.

Dilbertian · 25/02/2024 23:29

I have a dedicated fish-slice. (This one.) it is useless for frying, but perfect for getting under cat sick and lifting it off the carpet.

My drill is:
Rubber gloves
Newspaper
Fish-slice
Sodium bicarbonate

First I scrape up as much of the sick as possible, from different directions and dump it onto the newspaper.

Next I dump a load of bicarb on the damp spot, leave for a few minutes and then scrape it up with the fish slice. You can see it change colour as it absorbs the moisture.

Repeat a couple of times, this time gently pressing the bicarb into the carpet.

I usually leave the last lot on four a few hours and then vacuum it up.

This tends to work, though it's a bit labour-intensive.

Simple solution always works for me.

kittielittie · 26/02/2024 04:38

as a veteran if two vomiting cats for a week, scoop up with kitchen roll or blot with a couple of layers if more liquid, a rub if the area with antibacterial wipes them a good scrub with the dr beckman carpet cleaner. that stuff could clean and deodorise a messy crime scene!

shearwater2 · 26/02/2024 05:16

I scoop it up in loo roll and flush it, then wipe/spray with disinfectant, then follow up with carpet cleaner.

MagpiePi · 29/02/2024 12:26

I would just like to report a win from yesterday.
I heard the cat starting to vomit and managed to get a piece of old newspaper under him just in time and catch the lot! 💪

Spraying clothes stain remover on it does the trick for me.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 29/02/2024 12:44

Buy a carpet cleaner, you can get small ones for spot cleaning. Some cats are sick a lot.

Absolutely. One of ours used to think the kitty litter tray was her own personal biscuit jar.

So many magazines on our beside tables have been sacrificed to this noble cause over the years.

Current issue is that small cat can't stomach big cat's dental food. But it doesn't stop her trying...
