We're considering an Abby kitten; does anyone have any insider knowledge please? We've kept Bengals, Burmese and Siamese so familiar with Asian breeds..

As no-one has posted, I'll commment about our Ocicat and hope that it's vaguely helpful (even if it's just to bump the thread).

So Ocicats were created by crossing Abyssinians with Siamese. We have had Siamese before and Burmese. I would describe them as follows:

Siamese. Both have been lovely, sweet family cats. Great temperaments.

Bumese. A very, very naughty cat, but also an utter delight.

Ocicat. Holy bleep* what an utter sod. Love him dearly but I'm pretty sure that he is the reicarnation of some sort of pagan god of chaos.

*Edited because it removed part of my text and it wasn't even a swear word, just stars.

Had two but the last was a while ago now. The first wouldn’t stop attacking dogs. It was embarrassing at times. The second was more placid but liked fish, to the extent of diving in pools to get them.

I would love one. Or a Siamese. Grew up with Burmese. Maybe one day!

I have an Abyssinian, and he is gorgeous. They are lovely friendly cats.

If you’ve had bengals anything else is a piece of cake surely? Even a bobcat would seem manageable.

Our Bengal thought his name was “No, DONT!” And was nicknamed Asbo on here. Little legend.

Gorgeous!

I can definitely see the Abyssinian influence in our Ocicat. The head shape and face markings especially.

Yes, we have a 'Be GOOD!' for the same reason. 😂

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 23/02/2024 17:34

While they sit there thinking but why not??

billydilly · 23/02/2024 17:46

You're right, of course. Ours answers to 'Baz, for fucks sake!!'

Unfortunately, he thinks that catching stuff is being good.

He has also caught rats and squirrels too.

Agree with the above. He looks just like my ocicat except she is tawny with spots. She's clever and gets bored easily. We originally only wanted one but had to get a companion in the end. He's also an ocicat but has more British short-hair in him. very clingy and vocal.

RolyPolyKitten · 23/02/2024 18:03

What a fab expression! 🐱

I had an Abyssinian male about 12 years ago but he went outside and was run over, he was an absolute delight of a cat. 😥

I got an Abyssinian female last year, she is 8 months old and pretty small, about 2.8kgs. She has a massive personality though. She is fearless and she is gorgeous. I have a 3 year old male Bengal as well and she is definitely more active, more playful, more energetic, braver, cheekier, and he is a typical Bengal but she runs rings around him. And the two dogs. She is my angel. Have you ever seen such a beautiful cat.

My first Abby once brought a wild rabbit home and another time a live pigeon that I had to catch in a tea towel and release.

RolyPolyKitten · 23/02/2024 21:02

She's lovely Mortimer. 😍

billydilly · 23/02/2024 21:20

@Mortimercat what a stunner!
