Collar after castration

Our little guy got neutered today and he keeps taking his collar off. What do I do? I'm really worried he's going to damage himself but he just takes it off straight away. I had it on the smallest setting but he still manages to wriggle free

Our DCat never had a collar after neutering. She fought so hard against it that even the vet agreed it was safer without. Keep trying it, but at some point you might just have to give up for his own safety.

Neither of my 2 boys were given a collar after being neutered.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 16/02/2024 06:52

I've never used a cone on a cat after neutering.

mondaytosunday · 16/02/2024 07:18

Mine only lasted sbout four hours in theirs (one make, one female). Vet said it was fine as long as I kept sn eye on them. Feeding was impossible and they were so little they kept getting the edge caught on the floor.

Jasmin1971 · 18/02/2024 12:07

Mine ripped his off as soon as we got back from the vet. We tried to put it back on, but my DH still has the scars to prove that we were unsuccessful! Your baby boy will be fine without it.

Clarich007 · 20/02/2024 12:36

None of my 6 cats have had a cone on after spaying/ neutering, and apart from licking gently, left the stitches alone.
Your boy will be fine.

Thanks everyone. It's been 1 week since Little Man's op and he's doing great. He was absolutely fine without a collar.
I just dropped back in because I realised I forgot to pay the cat tax. So here is my little prince

Aww he’s gorgeous!! 😍glad he’s recovered from his op

IVFendomum · 21/02/2024 20:13

Our boy was castrated yesterday and I’ve also been googling to try and find out how important the cone is as he keeps taking it off! He had it on a while today but it makes me feel sad for him, it’s hard for him to eat. Am giving him cone free time this evening and he’s not bothering his nether regions!

Little Tennyson made it very clear that he was Not. Having. It.

Glad to hear your cat is fine!

Oh he is gorgeous.Glad to hear he has recovered from his op.
My cat didn't even appear to notice afterwards.

Ilovemyshed · 03/03/2024 20:44

Mine won't wear one, ever. The annoying thing is that the vet charged me for a cone, we got home and he went out the flap, cone and all and left it in the garden. He's the same with collars.
