Been offered a kitten - but not sure!

I already have two cats. A boy (10mo) and a girl (7yo). Both done, both very happy though I think the boy would love a playmate.

My friend took in a little stray just before Christmas who promptly had three kittens. They're all beautiful healthy, well sociablised babies and friend will be keeping mama cat and a kitten.

The other two were meant to be going together but the person's landlord has said she can only have one cat.

I have absolutely and totally fallen in love with one of the kittens - she's a tiny little girl who is super snuggly, seems to have picked me (when I go to visit she will literally run over to me to sit on my shoulder and purr!)

I'm just not sure if three in a flat is a good idea, or if two girls and a boy is a good combination!

Cat tax paid - she's a black one on the left but I had to include a pic of her brother!

Give her a home. She’s already chosen you. You’ll regret it if you don’t. 😻

Floralnomad · 11/02/2024 19:52

If you can afford to have 3 cats why would you not , the more the merrier .

canttellyouwhereorwhatido · 11/02/2024 19:53

Sorry to say, but you don't actually have a choice.. she has deemed you 'sufficient for her requirements' .. that's all you need to know .

CatChant · 11/02/2024 19:57

She’s already picked you.Grin

Gorgeous family.

Carelesswispalover · 11/02/2024 20:08

Ah we have a black cat, be warned they are FULL of mischief but so lovable.
She has deemed you worthy, you can't refuse

QuestionableMouse · 11/02/2024 20:20

I already have a black cat and a black and white cat so am well aware of their ways! 😻😂

Just be aware that a 3rd cat will disrupt the dynamics of the existing 2. Did I understand correctly that you live in a flat? If that is the case, do they have access to a garden and if not is the flat large enough for them to all have their own space?

QuestionableMouse · 11/02/2024 20:31

That's why I'm a bit nervous!

Yes they both have their own space and no, no access to a garden.

Three in a flat could be too much. If the current two are happy I'd stick with them. Cats can get stressed when there are three

K0OLA1D · 11/02/2024 20:39

I have 4, but they can all go out if they choose. I think if they all had to stay in they'd get on each others nerves.

I wouldn't be able to say no to another cat though

Fallenangelofthenorth · 11/02/2024 21:18

Oh my God - she's the spit of my favourite ever cat! You MUST have her.

Actually, no, it will be too crowded and your other cats will be jealous of her beauty so perhaps I should take her off your hands? As a favour...

boomingaround · 11/02/2024 21:21

I think it's a terrible idea. Cats don't need "playmates". They are territorial and largely solitary unless they are bonded. Adding a third cat to two other cats and a flat is asking for trouble. You are likely to end up with at least one of them being very stressed with all the behaviour that goes with that.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 11/02/2024 22:22

Go for it!

We've always had three of varying and we've never had any issue with any fights or dramas or anything between them.

Our current trio are 8, 3 and 9 months.

Our current trio are 8, 3 and 9 months.

Also to add, mine are indoors only too with no issues. No fights, no stress, they all share resources and actively seek out each others' company, especially the younger two.

They play constantly, wrestle and chase all over. Our middle boy is actually happier now he has a playmate. The oldest is arthritic and not all that fussed about play but there's no aggression and he will curl up and sleep with them and groom them regularly.

QuestionableMouse · 11/02/2024 22:30

Yeah when I say a playmate my younger cat is extremely playful at the moment and my older cat is much more chilled so I think he'd love a younger cat to match his energy levels!

Kids leave home.

Cats don't.

Can you afford them is the question? Food, vet bills, etc..

QuestionableMouse · 11/02/2024 23:41

No kids of my own! And yes, I can afford another one. 😊

Speaking as the owner of seven cats, I think either one cat or three cats is the perfect number. If you have three cats, two are usually doing stuff together and the third gets a break.

JaceLancs · 11/02/2024 23:59

My max was 6 x why not have another?

Oh you have an orange one! 😍

I do 😍 our older boy is another Void as well - he was very busy doing important sleeping while the other two were looning around the living room though he does join in occasionally when he can be arsed

Pudmyboy · 18/02/2024 00:31

What happened @QuestionableMouse ? Did you get her??? If so how did it go with your other cats?

QuestionableMouse · 27/02/2024 20:47

Well she's sleeping on me right now!

Had a few little moments but they're getting on fine in general - she's only been here since Sunday afternoon so they're all still getting used to each other! I think my boy cat is just totally confused by her to be honest! (he's not the brightest spark! 😂)
