Neighbours cat

Hopefully you knowledgeable people will be able to help. Our garden seems to have become a hangout for the local neighbourhood cats. In fact they seem to be getting quite possessive over it (not sure if this is a thing with cats or they just don't like me). There is always 1 or 2 cats in our trees or chilling on our sleepers. I don't actually have a problem with this. However recently when going out Into the garden they are starting to hiss and full on show their teeth at me. They do not move away.

What can i do about this ? How do I stop them coming into the garden ? I want to do this humanely which is why I'm asking for advice.

I have two young children and the behaviour of the cats are now making me feel it would be unsafe for them to play out when the weather changes.

Arm your children with water pistols and encourage noisy play. The cats won't like this and will move onto someone else's garden.

Are the cats Bengals? If so, water wont bother them. Humans don't scare them, either.

Bucket of water. Sometimes a water gun isn't enough - a bucket is scary enough to force a retreat. Inviting someone with a dog over isn't a bad idea either - a couple of strategic wees can make it undesirable territory.

Are you a dog?

Hissing is fear, they’re trying to make you back off. Hiss back at them.
Failing that bucket of cold water chucked in their general direction.

My Bengal came home one day soggy. I always wondered what he’d done that day.

OK water it Is. Will do that tomorrow when they come back again!

We looked after a family members dog and they stayed away after a few days, after being chased and barked at but then within a few days of the dog going they came back.

@Supersimkin2 have been referred to as a dog once or twice in my life, but unfortunately not 🤣.
