I'm looking for advice re my cat. She had been losing weight and had diarrhoea for months. I changed her food to gastro special dry food, stopped all treats even tried a couple of months of fresh food. Initially vet tried antibiotic injection and later steroid injection. We had full bloods done which indicated she has Tritrichomonas
She has had a course of Ronidazole antibiotics but no real improvement . I also give her probiotic sachets with her food daily. She has dropped weight from 3.5kg to 2.7kg and is constantly hungry. Her fur is all patchy and she is now shitting diarrhoea over the house around 3 times a week which is becoming really unbearable to deal with .
The vet advised that the treatment only works for 66% of cats and others live with the parasite. I feel her quality of life has really decreased as no treats, we have to lock her out of certain rooms because of the continuous accidents and she is always hungry and miserable.
Has anyone had a cat with this parasite? How long did recovery take? I don't know how much longer we as a family can handle the situation but I love her to bits and it sure what next move is as no other treatment available for this ....
