Getting in eye drops

Any advice on getting eye drops into a cat who is squeezing his eyes shut?

You just have to prize the eye lids open. Easier said that done, I know. And my cat was pretty cooperative!

We've done eye drops twice for a very non cooperative cat for conjunctivitis type stuff, in the end we wore gloves and squeezed the drops onto our fingers then rubbed it round her eyes. It worked both times, probably not exactly official advice but better than getting none anywhere near her eyes. Good luck!

Approach from behind, kind of tuck the cat in your armpit to stop them wriggling, little finger under their chin to lift head, and hold eye open with thumb and forefinger, bottle in other hand, keep the dropper low (so there's no big splash).

Our cat (who detests anything vet/health related) has had several week+ long courses of eye drops 3 times a day, and once you get the knack it becomes mostly ok

Oh god. I'm having flashbacks. I once catsat for my boss, and it was only after agreeing that she told me they both needed eye drops twice daily. As I recall...

Grab cat, place with bum on waist level surface, clamp body under arm, pressing down into the surface. Use dominant hand to grab head/neck from the front, under the jaw, and stretch index finger and thumb round to the back of the head to pull on the loose skin, opening the eyes. Use non dominant hand to squirt drops. Jump back out of the way of vengeance. Try to find where the other cat is now hiding. Repeat. Then clean own wounds.
