We adopted two sibling long haired cats recently, they didn’t come to us through a shelter and we don’t have any history for them.
One has longer, thicker fur than the other and he ends up with bits of poop stuck around his bottom and in his tail. He often smells like wee as well.
We had them checked at the vets recently and the vet said he’s not got a UTI or anything, he just isn’t grooming properly. She suggested we wipe around his bum with wet cotton wool balls to encourage him to groom down there but this hasn’t worked, he just looks a bit affronted and sulks.
Google says I need to trim the hair around his private parts but he’s a nervous cat and I’m worried I’ll hurt him because I’ve never trimmed a cat before. Is this something a groomer could do?
We had a lovely groomer come and trim their matted bits when we got them (they’d been sleeping outside for a few months) so I could ask her but I’m nervous to ask. I’ve never had a cat before and I don’t know if this is something I should be able to manage myself!
