Slightly lighthearted thread..

Back last Summer, DP and I got a kitten. He’s adorable with an amazing temperament, loves to play but is also a total snuggle bug. My problem is that he has blatantly chosen DP as his person. The second he hears DP’s car on the drive each evening he’ll drop me like a hot potato and run to the door to greet him. He’ll cuddle into him and if he gets up he’ll follow him everywhere.

DP has now gone away for two weeks, so I’ve 14 days to become the little guys favourite, help me out!

Ha ! if I ever get this far I'll let you know .Our boy adores DD , loves her , and she loves him.

He legs it out the door when he hears me come downstairs or through the door . (DH does WFH so he's with them)

I said to MaleCat if we were ever locked in a room would be tolerate me . DH said he'd chew his way out .

I wouldn't mind but I chose these little ratbags .
How many black cats have CPL/Battersea/Celia Hammond/Blue Cross/RSPCA got . Bloody hundreds .

You don’t. Cats choose. You can’t force or trick them. Cats choose and whatever they decide you just have to go with, end of.

This. During covid, I was separated from my cats for 9 months. As soon as we were reunited, I was their No.1 again. No one else really gets a look in really.

Thry just choose. No changing their minds UNLESS you nurse them through severe illness/injury and you do all the care/feeding/pain relief. My advice is just to get more cats. The law of numbers says you will be no1 with one of them 😂

Feed them. Play with them - look at Jackson Galaxy videos to become better at it
Spend lots of time giving them cuddles. Do all the slow blinks.

I am Cat number 1 in our house, despite DH doing all the feeding. They love him best at dinner times but the rest of the time he is a poor replacement - because he just doesn't do the quantity of cuddles.

I’ve got two traitorous toerags as well. I campaigned hard to get them, I chose them, I do everything for them and Cat One prefers DD and Cat Two prefers DS. I was briefly their person when they got spayed, both stuck to me like glue during their recovery. My sole claim to distinction is now that I’m the only person allowed to clean their ears. I suppose I better take what I can get 😝

My beautiful sweet fluffy princess sorry not sorry adores me and fusses over me, and is incredibly affectionate - and follows me around in the garden, and purrs loudly when I go near her/fuss over her.

But when DH is up/home, he is No.1 ... She is sat on the back of my chair, all snuggled up, and happy, but as soon as DH appears, off she goes!!! She goes loco, meows really loudly, and sits on his lap for the whole time he is sitting down, and follows him around like a lamb.

I do love her, and she loves me, but DH is her No 1.

Wear a lot of fleece, or every time you sit down, have a fleecy blanket on you. Or a heated blanket. Cats like fleece.
Also, sneak him dreamies or other High value snacks but not in the same place too often as he'll expect them.

When your DP returns, don't let him have any fleece. Or dreamies.

FWIW, I should be a way softer cushion than DP! Apparently comfort is not his thing..

This is our current status quo - He makes me feel I’m special but the second DP comes home he’s like ‘See ya!’

Or if you can't have more cats. Sack off your other half and live on your own. Then they have no choice. Maybe a bit extreme though.

I honestly don't think it's possible. We got our current cat during lockdown, I worked from home and dh didn't. So I spent all my days with the kitten it would curl up on me for sleeps and get in my arm nook for a cuddle bit as soon as DH came home, I didn't exist. He'd curl up with him all the time sleep cuddled up to him.

He's 4 this year and still prefers DH to me. I put it down to him getting up earlier than me so he puts out the morning lik e lix and biscuits. But I put his wet food out in the evening and even that doesn't get me brownie points.
