Moving house with 3 cats

How long should I keep my cats indoors when I move house? The three of them love going outside and I’m already panicking thinking of trying to keep them inside when we move next month.

I also have 3 cats, i kept mine in for 2 weeks when we moved. Best to let them get used to their new home and new smells etc.

I moved house 25 years ago with four cats - two were indoors so that bit wasn't too difficult, but two were indoor/outdoor.

One of my guys went out the very next day after we moved and he was absolutely fine. He never went far from home anyway.

The other was terrified and stayed in 5/6 weeks - the first time he went out, he panicked and hid in the wheel arch of next door's car...

He was fine in the end though.

Thanks for the advice. I’m not looking forward to keeping doors/windows shut to avoid escapees nor am I relishing needing the litter trays as they always do their business outside. I have my fingers crossed for a smooth ish transition. At least they’ll have a wonderful garden to explore once they’re settled

When we've moved we've kept our cats in for 2 weeks. Our DBoycat loved going outside and any longer than 10 days did a number on his mental health. Not that he went far, he was a home boy.

Our DGirlcat would jump quickly over anything to go out but she would wander.

Our DGirlcat2 is very nervous so only goes into the backyard and back.

It's a tricky balance. I hope the move goes well!
