How many is too many?!

We have 5 cats. All were rescues - 1 from a friend of a friend and 4 from Cats Protection. A very rude women I met recently was horrified- apparently you should only have two cats in one household as they are territorial and you can’t give attention to more than two. Has anyone else heard anything like this?
How many cats do you have?
(Pics for attention)?

DB and SIL have 5, all indoor only, no kids. Too many for me but they are happy. And I think even they are done with 5.

We have 2 cats and one very crazy dog.

The male cat is not at all afraid of said dog and will 'tease' him by meowing through a window.

I wouldn't mind another cat - if it weren't for the dog.

Have always had a multi cat household, no problems. Infact neighbours encourage them in theirs, and miss them when they die. The more cats the merrier. People who like to complain about cats are often the coldest miserable people on earth,I'm so lucky where l live.

Sounds ridiculous to me, who makes up these nonsense rules?

We have two, if I had a bigger house we'd probably get another, but we also have a dog and toddler.

I think that as cats come and go, cuddle/food-wise, and don’t want constant attention, as many as you can manage and afford is fine. For me that is two, but that is me.

Eleven here, was twelve until recently. No issues other than its haed work and expensive! All ex feral/stray and happy as house cats with v. Large catio and three indoor/ outdoor cats.

I have 5, all rescues. First 4 came in as bonded pairs and were easy to introduce, 5th had two failed rehomes and has taken more work to integrate. We have a very large catio. Cat 5 can't be left with the others overnight because he wein't leave my shy girl alone but he's improving around her and for now sleeps happily with me. I do WFH 3 days a week though.

Cat 5 is the ginger one (no surprise there).

I only have four but it’s literally the dream. There’s always a cat around, I love it.

Two came as intentional homing - they were siblings and we had them from kittens.

Two years after that, we found a male kitten in the street - very young, not chipped and we couldn’t find his owners so we kept him 🥰 He’s probably everyone’s favourite, he’s a big soft teddy bear of a cat.

Almost a year later, to the month, we came across another very young kitten who was clearly on the verge of starving to death and very dehydrated. Again, not chipped and we put posters up, posted in local groups trying to find her owner but to no avail. So she’s now ours.

The two older ones are a bit prissy and hiss at the two younger ones if they get in the way but no fighting. They’re largely learning to rub alongside each other.

Im 43 and have never found a kitten in my life - it was always something I hoped for! And then I found two ❤️

Oh sorry, cat tax!

Two tuxedo cats - one 4 years old and one a kitten.

One all black boy cat - 1 year old.

One very fluffy tabby who is sister to the older tuxedo cat 🤷🏻‍♀️

I personally wouldn't go above two, because there's only one of me, and both of the two I currently have like a bit of attention - whether its a lap or a stroke. They also don't get on with each other brilliantly, and having separate rooms to sleep in really works.
