Post op care

My mum has adopted a cat that was abandoned. He is semi feral. He disappeared for a week then came home on 23rd with an obvious injury. One visit to a vet later and he has a badly shattered leg. They think he fell from an upstairs window onto a previously broken and not fixed leg.

Today he is going in to have the leg amputated as they are not sure they could fix the breaks and it would cost thousands. He is also being neutered. It has been a struggle over the past few days as he has been sedated but is struggling in his crate with his very broken leg.

Any advice for post op care? We will of course ask the vets but any advice would be great. He is going in at 8am so hopefully will be back later today very pissed off but hopefully in a better place.

Good luck. My cat's back leg was amputated two weeks ago. Buying a litter tray for tripod cats has made life much easier for her she can just step in and out of it.

He is home but still very sedated from the op. He has peed and pooed but not eaten anything yet just slept a lot.
Bless him his whole world has turned upside down and we think he is not even two yet. We might try a trail of dreamies to his food bowl later to encourage him as his medicine is mixed in with tuna in there.

Cats are incredibly resilient. Hopefully 🐈 will be fine. There's a really supportive Facebook group, Tripod Cats UK, who will give you guidance and answer any questions.
