I just want to share this with people I think will appreciate it.

We’ve always had cats, a year ago we’d had our 1.5 year old beauty Binx from he was 8 weeks old and I was itching to get another fur baby.

We don’t have many shelters nearby and those we do have are often particular about the cats being allowed outside access (but then refuse us as we live on a main road) or they want them to be the only cat.

So we began to look at gumtree etc, the trouble being I wanted them all!

Then an ad caught my eye ‘7 month of kitten £20’
The description simply read ‘Great cat, can deliver’

Something felt off, so I messsged the seller and enquired.
They told me he was 7 months old, had no injections, wasn’t neutered, hadn’t been treated for fleas/worms

When I asked what he ate I was told ‘no idea, he’s always outside’
And finally I asked, What’s his name
Only to be told that he didn’t have one!

I knew I had to take him, within twenty minutes they’d dropped him off with a litter tray and that was that.

He was skin and bones, had hair missing (which the vet said looked like it had been pulled out!) and he was terrified.

We got his jabs, neutering, treated him for fleas/worms and ticks, got him a full health check and to be safe a blood and urine analysis.
Apart from being malnourished, luckily he was fine.

But he growled if you went anywhere near him, and hissed if you went near the food, even if it was to refill.

It was a slow process, but a year later he is healthy, happy and is the sweetest, most affectionate boy. He chirps at you when he enters a room just to let you know he’s there, and he loves his cuddles. He loves to play, and is best buddies with Binx.

We named him Salem, and we couldn’t be prouder of our beautiful boy. Pic attached

I’m not even a cat person but I ❤️your story 😀

Aww. I collected a cat for a rescue. With a similar story. He was very aggressive to the people 'caring' for him. They were terrified of him. They had lined up four people to help
Get him in the box. I just picked him up and put him in, no problem. The rescue him sorted out and he's now super affectionate and ready for his new home.

I have a giant black cat who was a scaredy boy when we got him. I love Salem's story, and black cats are lovely.

Lovely, lovely story! He looks adorable, and the length of his tail! Reminds me of Boycat, who also had a tail that more than reached the ground.

I've had three black cats over the years and they're the most affectionate of all the cats I've had.

StressedOutSemolina · 12/12/2023 06:56

Thank God the hands he ended up in were yours ♥️

Hes lovely 😍 and this gives me hope. We adopted Pixie 6 weeks ago and her story sounds similar. She was 1 of 29 cats seized by the rspca living in awful conditions 😢 she is very timid and does the same hissing and lashing out, particularly if there is food about. She's very slowly starting to explore the house but still has no contact with humans or our other cats, so we're just giving her time and her own space and we're hoping she will realise we're quite nice really!

What despicable people!

Thank goodness you took on the cat!

@4pink1blue She is beautiful, hopefully she slowly begins to trust.

For anyone who needs another cat picture, here is the beautiful Binx

Oh what a gorgeous pair of furry overlords!
And what a blessing that you found each other, I hope you have many years of chirping and cuddles from them both 😻😻

Beautiful girl, let's hope you are cuddling up together before too long, thank you for giving her a loving home after such a traumatic start😻
(Ps I am thanking you because your furry overlord won't say it in so many purrs but no doubt will be thinking it)

Aww, Salem is so cute! I have a 7 month old black cat called Salem too :D

Hallmark1234 · 14/12/2023 21:27

Aww what a sad story. What worries me is that person could have other cats that he sells for £20 a time in equally desperate condition!
