Unneutered female got out!

I feel like such an idiot.
I was cooking, and the smoke alarm went off when I opened the oven (the tray needs cleaning)
. I was in a rush to open the window and fanning to get the alarm off. Went out of the kitchen, then 10 minutes later back in and saw the window was open wider than I’d left it.
She’s definitely gone, have been out looking but no sign.
She’d never been out with us before (we got her from a friend of a friend who let her roam unneutered). She was supposed to go to the vet next week for it.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom? She is young, fit and healthy, but I’m worried because a) she doesn’t know the area and b) she’s unneutered!!!

We have put her litter tray outside too.

Well hopefully she will return soon, or in the morning. Is she in season ?

TomatoSandwiches · 08/12/2023 23:02

They will still neuter her either way.
Pop some food down and see if she comes back for it.

She started on heat on Thursday. It was certainly decreasing today but still showing signs. Oh dear 😖😖

Congratulations on your forthcoming kittens 😉

Costacoffeeplease · 09/12/2023 00:23

I would still take her to be spayed next week.

margotrose · 09/12/2023 07:20

You need to make sure you tell the vet that she escaped and that there's possibility of pregnancy when she goes into be spayed.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 09/12/2023 08:24

I’d tell the vets but they can still spay.

RudsyFarmer · 09/12/2023 08:25

Yes I think they can still spay even if she’s pregnant.

Allergictoironing · 09/12/2023 09:23

Yes they can still spay if she's pregnant, you just need to warn the vet first that she may have been caught by a tom recently.

In the remaining few days, it could be worth restricting her a bit when you're doing things that may mean open windows or doors e.g. shut in a room when you expect lots of in and out of the front door, or shut out of the kitchen when you're cooking!

margotrose · 09/12/2023 09:28

Sorry yes, I should have clarified - they can still spay but they do need to know that there's a risk of pregnancy.

lovelyjubbly888 · 10/12/2023 01:05

I will absolutely let them know there’s a risk she could have mated. Good to know also they can still spay, but worth highlighting. While I am not entirely against having more kittens, her previous owner told me she had already had 2 litters surprisingly (genuinely - I thought, why on earth would you be surprised that a non spayed female cat you let roam outside had become pregnant!) so I’d really rather not put her poor little body through that for a third time.

Get some flat cat screens for the windows. I got them when I realised that my new Persian could jump
On to windowsills.

KnockingOnHellsDoor · 10/12/2023 07:02

We had a cat from a rescue who told us she was spayed. She wasn’t. 🙄When we realised, we booked her in for a spay, she was very early pregnant but the vet was still able to spay thankfully.

TemporaryCatSlave · 10/12/2023 16:17

Hopefully all will be well and she didn't get herself 'in trouble' during her escapade.

Having said that, TempCat is the result of his mummy's booked spay being delayed due to the first Covid lockdown! She escaped out a window one of the family kids left open in that warm weather period, and she got knocked up by the local stray Tom. Didn't take long, I think she was only out a few hours!
