Goodbye Wanda

After a traumatic weekend if emergency vet visits we lost poor, noisy, bonkers Wanda at the age of 2 to acute kidney failure... absolutely gutted and house if far too quiet...

By cruel coincidence our 9 year old Ragdoll, Kipling, also had blood tests pre dental treatment that show he has chronic kidney disease and is now in hospital to stabilise his creatinine levels and treat a secondary infection... he also has minor heart issues... vet is hopeful he'll be home in a day or two with medication and special diet but how long he'll have is uncertain...

Devastated... you guys on the litter tray will understand...

That's just Crap for you. RIP Wanda. And hope your other one will be ok. So sorry. FlowersFlowers

Beamur · 06/12/2023 08:50

That's so sad. Two is no age. I lost my previous oriental to kidney failure and infection which was also picked up by a pre-dental blood test.
Wanda looks like she was a character.

FiveShelties · 06/12/2023 08:54

So sorry OP, it is tough having pets. They just steal our hearts. I hope Kipling is soon home and responding to treatment.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 06/12/2023 11:37

Just heard from vet that they only expect Kippy to have six weeks or so... devastating

Sorry for your loss...

Character is the very word to describe her...

Was Wanda an oriental? They are prone to polycystic kidneys unfortunately - if this is what she had, I would contact the breeder as it's hereditary and really they shouldn't keep breeding from the same parents.
My boy had malformed kidneys - they had simply stopped growing when he was a kitten so unbeknownst to us he was always on the edge with kidney function and despite multiple vet trips with other issues it wasn't picked up until too late.
So sorry you've had such a poor prognosis for your other cat too, that's really rotten luck. Big hugs.

Yes Oriental...They don't think it was polycystic kidneys - I asked specifically for the reasons you mentioned but there was no sign of that on the ultrasound scan and they would have expected to be able to see it.

Oh I’m so sorry 😞

Floopani · 06/12/2023 13:19

RIP Wanda, she looks like a wonderful sparky personality! I'm sorry to hear of your loss and the subsequent fright with Kipling. Sending him and you best wishes.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 06/12/2023 13:27

I'm very sorry to hear about Wands, she was just a baby. 2 is no age.

im sorry to hear about Kipling. Kidney issues can be a rollercoaster.

I had both of my 'kidney issue' cats (at different times) on special diets (they didn't enjoy) and various treatments & tests, they 'picked up' do much between treatments that they seemed to be well & happy.

it's a long & complicated story as to why, but I hope if I'm in that position again I'd be stronger & PTS but it just didn't seem the right time/necessary at the time. It's hard.

I hope you can make the call at the right time for your beautiful Kipling xx

Oh I'm so sorry. I lost my little guy in June to acute kidney failure. It was so sudden and unexpected. Aside his heart murmur which wasn't even an issue and often being sick. He was a scarfer and barfer though, but that dropped dramatically after he was switched to a non grain diet, he had been perfectly healthy aside going off his food up until about a week and a half before I had to have him pts.

Goodbye Wanda

So sorry. She looks like trouble! (Why did she have a rubber ring round her?!!)

CatChant · 06/12/2023 17:33

I am so sorry. It is always so hard to lose them and two is no age at all. To then learn you have only a short time left with your other beloved cat is a very cruel blow.

They look adorable.

LostCats · 06/12/2023 20:12

I am so very very sorry for your loss. She did look like quite a soul!
Very best wishes to Kipling for the time you have left together.
All in the lost house send condolences

Pudmyboy · 06/12/2023 21:02

That picture is brilliant! What a wonderful cat! So very sorry for your sad news and loss, I hope the two years you had together were as special as she looks💐

So sorry. She looks like trouble! (Why did she have a rubber ring round her?!!)

It's an inflatable headpiece that one of my DDs git at a party and put on her. She didn't blink an eye and carried on with her mischief regardless...

Trouble is right...no food was safe from her lightning fast swiping paws, no soft toy or sock of limits to this cat thief...

She played with such manic energy it was a joy to watch and greeted you at the door with her loud, squawking miaows whilst wrapping herself round your ankles... it's horrible coming home to the silence...

Missing my usual Kippy cuddles right now as he considers evenings to be cuddles on the couch time and gets most annoyed if I'm doing less important stuff like chores... can't wait to get him back, even if only for a short time...

Our third cat, Sparky, has had her blood tested because we're now paranoid but is all good... she really only likes youngest DD and said DD uses her almost as a therapy pet for her anxiety so so pleased she's ok...

Both Dads are autistic and have high anxiety and cats help so much... they are finding this really hard...

Thanks for all your understanding and 💐 to those who've also lost feline family members...

I am so, so sorry. Wanda was barely more than a child, and to know you will lose Kippy so soon as well is horrible.

oakleaffy · 07/12/2023 04:13

Beautiful cats- So sorry for Wanda’s loss.
I just hope there is some form of sunny upland or an afterlife where we will one day be reunited with beloved animals and people we loved ( and love)

Mumsgirls · 11/12/2023 23:01

Sorry to hear, that must be so hard.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 12/12/2023 17:38

So pleased to have this chap back... he was in hospital just over a week...now plan to spoil him for whatever (quality) time he has left...

He enjoyed a lik-e-lik but one can't be expected to eat from the packet, don't you know? Fine china required!

He's been round all the scratching posts to have go at them and reestablish his position....

Goodbye Wanda
