3 year old cat with heart disease

We just took our 3 year old cat to the vet for neutering, but they wanted to do a heart scan first as they found a heart murmur.
They just called and said they can see evidence of heart disease on the scan so can’t go ahead with neutering until they can look into it further.
I’m worried. I know heart problems are very common in cats, but she’s only 3 years old. What is her prognosis like? Will discuss further with vet later but I can’t pick her up until later on and sitting here worrying now.

She neede to be seen by a cardiologist. Then you will know more. If you are in the East Midlands area, my cat was treated by an excellent one.

I mean, always go with vet advice but I'd also proceed with caution. Lots of cats have heart murmurs for life that will never bother them

I've been told my cat has a 'quite significant' heart murmur since she was a kitten. Discovered just after spaying her at 9'weeks

Told she needed a cat scan and would require medication etc etc

I decided to adopt a watch and see policy as I felt she was fine.

She's now 15 and still as active as she ever was

So to answer your actual question, it all depends of course, but in my experience through deciding to do absolutely nothing, prognosis has been great.

Hi everyone, thank you.
Their machine broke down while doing the scan so they are going to repeat it again next week, they did get some images. They also said they would put it to a cardiologist for further advice.
My main concern is wanting to get her neutered so she can go outside again (we got her from a woman who let her roam outside un-neutered)

Getting her neutered will again depend on the scan, my vets discovered my cat had an enlarged heart and vet ahead with dental, the cardiologist was not impressed! My cat turned out to have severe heart disease. But she was completely asymptomatic.
