New kitten seems unwell

We got our new kitten today. He's a 13 week old oriental. He seems to have an upper respiratory infection of some sort. He has discharge from his nose and eyes - one eye in particular seems to be bothering him, he's not really opening it. He also seems pretty lethargic for such a young cat but I guess he might just be unsettled from moving to a new home. The vet can't fit him in for a new kitten check till Tuesday. Should I worry? Do I need an emergency appointment before that? I don't know if it's just like a human toddler having a cold and I'm worrying for nothing, or if it could actually be serious. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

Glad he's better. Just curious, did he come from a breeder in Northampton?

I love orientals - I have 2 that are the same colour as your new baby.
Is this your first oriental kitten? Do you have any other cats? We've had several and have always been advised to get a second car if we had no other pets. They're very social (and needy).
They're not the most robust health wise and I would advise you have good insurance and a vet you trust.
Regarding the lethargy - kittens do sleep a lot, but I would expect a couple of hours of lively behaviour every day.

The ears stay big.

He's so adorable! Kittens often don't poo for a day or so in a new home. I'm sure he will soon.

YGreat news he has done a poo! DH was out at a work event last night and I had to tell him as soon as he got in 🤣
No @Justonedayatatime11 he's from Hampshire.
@Beamur he's my first Oriental but I've had Siamese before so.im used to this type of cat (although not this colour) he does have a companion. We have an adult British Blue female. She's not very impressed with him yet though. He keeps trying to march up to her and she hisses at him or runs away. No violence or anything though and she is getting closer so I think they'll be friends in a week or 2.

Omg he is gorgeous! So glad he's doing better.

Sorry to be a gloom merchant- but do you think you should keep him isolated from the other cat for a while? Just in case?

Whatsasname · 01/12/2023 11:46

@CurlewKate I hope not. They're currently both on the sofa with me so a bit late for that. But he seems fine now so I think it's all ok.
