Emergency Vet handhold

First time posting here, had cat for about 8 years (hand reared) and he’s always been really healthy, indoor, chilled cat with no reason to go to the vet.

He was making yowling noises yesterday & today has been very withdrawn, not eating or drinking and walking very gingerly. He’s now at the vet having blood tests and (£600 and counting) we are just sat waiting to hear back.

Not quite sure what I’d do without him, I’m hoping I don’t have to find out for a very long time.

I hope you hear some positive news soon. Thinking of you and your little one. It's so upsetting seeing them poorly and not being able to help. He's in the best place and hopefully it's something minor that can be treated quickly.

Hand hold here, hope your furry overlord is soon well and home. Mine had a bad time last year following a dental and had to be tube fed round the clock, he was so I’ll and would not eat even liky. So relieved when he made it through, staff all cheered in the vet when he started eating. He is currently on my knee purring and I am incapussatated! At 16 I worry as he is losing weight, but seems well and happy and very agile. They hold jour hearts in their paws don’t they? Love litter tray as only fellow tat slaves get it. Crossed paws from us to you

Thank you both. I didn’t expect the house to feel so quiet or for his brother to be quite so lost.

Hes staying in for a few days, he’s got a kidney infection so IV antibiotics and they may have to scan his kidneys. He’s a grumpy puss with anyone other than us so probably means sedation for that. We should get to go and give him cuddles tomorrow after work.

Another handhold here, wishing your furry overlord is back to normal very soon 😻

Toddlerteaplease · 27/11/2023 19:09

How is he doing?

LostCats · 27/11/2023 20:03

I really hope he’s ok

WombatBombat · 27/11/2023 23:45

He’s still in, his ultrasound was pretty clear so likely an infection.

He really is very grumpy and refusing to eat. She also said he’s not weeing even though he has a full bladder, so while their gut feel is that he’s just refusing to, they want to make sure that he actually can.

We’ll hear more tomorrow but my hope is that he can come home tomorrow or Weds for a lot of TLC & possibly day visits to a more local vet.

Not fully out of the woods but the vet has seemed fairly relaxed which has been more reassuring. Thank you for all the love, I’ve been very wobbly today.

Sadly we’ve had to take him back in. He’s been doubly incontinent since coming back.

He’s had a catheter fitted but had no control while under. He’s on anti inflammatories, but they are at a bit of a loss as to what is causing it.

We’re trying to stay positive but it doesn’t seem great.

WombatBombat handhold for you. Really hoping the vet can work out what's wrong with him.

WombatBombat · 02/12/2023 11:28

Unfortunately it’s the news we didn’t want. Likely to be a fast growing tumour or something equally as devastating around his pelvis and spine, which means that prognosis is poor and he’ll have no quality of life.

We’ve made the hardest decision to say goodbye later today.

I handreared him and his brother from the age of 2 weeks & we’ve shipped them across the world with us. He truly is a once in a lifetime cat, DH’s soulmate pet and we’ve been so blessed to have him for 8 years.

WombatBombat I am so so sorry. It's a heartbreaking decision to have to make. You've given him a wonderful life and are doing the best for him xx
