Are my kittens too small?

We’ve just got two gorgeous kittens, they are 11 weeks old tomorrow. I went to buy worming tablets but can’t find anything for their weight and am now concerned they might be too tiny. One is 350g and one is 500g?

Is this a gumtree purchase?

You need to take them to the Vet.

Vet. Not least because vet will sell worming and flea treatments that actually work.

11 weeks, at those weights? Are you sure? They should be heavier than that at 8 weeks when they leave mum!
I’d take them to the vet!

They are both well below average weight . Do not give them otc wormers , get a vet to check them .

Thanks all. Just weighed again (shouldn’t have trusted the teenagers to do this accurately!) and they are actually 600g, but still very small. They have been for their first vaccination and seen by the vet and no concerns then, but I will take them again.

Mine weighed more than that at eight weeks old and he was a semi-feral farm kitten who was abandoned by his mum.

Are they 11 weeks old though? Did the vet think the age was right.

When mine were that age it was liquid wormer we used that we got from the vet

That weight is absolutely tiny.

I've just checked how heavy my cat was at that age -he was 900g (his brother was 1.2Kg) and when we got him at 8 weeks (I'm not convinced he was 8 weeks) he had been underfed. We were told he would always be a small cat (he isn't now, he's average size and a bit chubby)

What type of cat are they? Are you sure they're 11weeks? I'd let the vet worm them. I'm surprised they haven't.

They are extremely small. Mine was 1.2kg at 10 weeks.

Do you have photos?

Might be able to tell if they look 11 weeks

That is very light for 11 week old kittens. Photos please- not just for cat tax - it may provide an idea of age.

Our two small boy cats (fully grown at just under 4kg) were 1kg and 1.1kg at 9 weeks.

That's too young to be rehomed. My little monsters were still suckling at that age.

Here we go…..will take them back to the vets this week for a check up…

Honestly, those look more like 6 weeks than 11. (I foster stray kittens for a pet charity, so we've seen a fair number.) How confident are you of their ages?

As a rough guide, kittens should gain around 100g a week for their first few weeks. I'm surprised that the vet isn't worried about them.

Yeah they don’t look 11wk to me either.

For reference these were 2 of my rescue litter at 9 weeks,I'd say your 2 are smaller.
Surprised the vet didn't mention their size.

My litter of Orientals were more than that at 8 weeks and they're a typically slim cat

Yes, both girls. The other 3 in the litter were considerably bigger. The vet did their first vaccinations on 24/10, but I didn’t take them their original owners did. I’ve no reason to disbelieve the ages - friend of a friend, but hopeful it’s that rather than anything more worrying.
