Constantly tripping over clingy cat

My tuxedo girl is 2 & clingy & timid. Even if she's snoring & fast asleep with me & I move anywhere, she'll wake, then follow me there & back. Thing is, shes never learned that I will trip over her if she winds thru my legs as I walk. I've tripped over her so many times & thought oh well never mind, i was going slow & shes so quick she'll only gets a fleeting brushing contact of my leg & she backs off a little way then is right back, unhurt. Only the last time it happened I looked to reassure her & check she was ok like always & she was under the coffee table, visibly trembling & not coming back to me. I'd only felt a slight brush of fur , as per usual ,so not hurt her. She was fine after I reassured her with cheese. I felt so awful. Any advice on how to get her walking ahead or next to me like all my previous fur babies?

Mine does this on the stairs and often in the dark. I call it the notice me dance and have taken to just picking him up.

I will try it. She really hates being picked up, (her thing is either being asleep on my chest, or under the duvet under my legs when I'm chilling & interwebbing) but I'd rather that, than her get that scared again. It's weird that scared her, when fireworks leave her unbothered!

I do have any advice but you have my sympathies. My dog & cat both do this. They can be snoring on the sofa & an alarm must go off when I get up. I fell down 5 stairs tripping over my dog😱 and he had the cheek to look at me like I was stupid🤣

I’ve told dh that if he ever comes home to find me lifeless at the bottom of the stairs, the cat will have been responsible!

Does Jackson Galaxy say anything about this? My tuxedo rescue gets upset when I go out.

CSIblonde · 31/10/2023 23:35

I'm just going to check out Jackson on YT. I do watch his stuff a lot but have never seen any advice re the tripping thing!

I would pick my girl up and plonk her on the nearest out the way surface so she could still see me but so she was out the way
