Scratching Carpet at Night

We moved into a rented, carpeted home in August. Our two cats are 7 years old.

My female cat has taken to loudly scratching the carpet outside our bedroom at around 3am each night Confused. Our door is open but the doors to our teenage DCs rooms are shut. It's not like she wants access, it feels like more of an attention thing. If I get up and shout at her to stop, then she strolls towards the bathroom reenacting what we do when we get up for the day. This can go on for an hour. I also strongly suspect she'd like her Dreamies addiction fed.

I've put a couple of old towels outside the kids room to try and absorb most of the behaviour, but 'D'H is going crazy and yelling and saying she's got to go (no, she hasn't)

She has a cat flap so can come and go. What can I do? I hate shouting at her and don't want to cause distress - would water spray work?

No, please don't spray her with water.

Does she have access to food overnight?

Thank you for your reply. She does have access to food all night
