Telling the cat that the clocks have gone back

Normally he gets fed at 6 o clock. So is prowling and hinting quite loudly that’s it’s supper time. How do I tell him it’s only 5 o clock? I will try to hang on until half past, but might have to ease him into the new regime in 15 minute blocks………..🙂

Same here! I caved at 5 & decided that He Knows Best.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 29/10/2023 17:13

What time does he usually get his breakfast?

ohme · 29/10/2023 17:17

Does it really matter what time the cat gets fed?

LostCats · 29/10/2023 17:18

To the cat it does 😆😆😆

LadyBird1973 · 29/10/2023 17:19

It matters because if you do it too early, they wake you up at 4am expecting a top up!

LostCats · 29/10/2023 17:19

My old boy got his dinner at 4.30. We’ll do the change slowly. The young naughty one is thankfully still asleep. But given how much he eats on any given day, a break is a good thing.

squashyhat · 29/10/2023 17:20

Mine gets fed at 5pm. At 3.40 he was making demands. I caved at 4.30 while explaining that tomorrow 5pm will mean 5pm. I suspect he'll still try it on 😺

Plump82 · 29/10/2023 17:22

Mine get fed at 6ish, 2pm and then 8pm. For their middle feed they're usually meowing from 12 but today it was from 11. It's been a long day of a lot of meowing!!

viques · 29/10/2023 17:22

He gets his breakfast at about 8, today it was about half eight. That’s it then, he doesn’t have access to more food during the day, though gets a cat biscuit snack at bedtime to stave off night starvation, my bedtime that is! He is sitting quietly now, so will feed him in a minute. He has had a quiet day , he is usually out rampaging but has been in all day because I caught him mangling a pigeon and locked him in so the mangled pigeon had a chance to escape before being dragged in through the cat flap, though I suspect it was spotted by a fox because one was lurking about.

I know how your cat feels. The 3 of us (me DP and dog) all had our tea at 1630 and now she's mithering to go for her evening walk which is usually half six.

beeswain · 29/10/2023 17:52

Same. I cracked and gave dcat her dinner at 5.30. Im desperate for mine!

WitchyFingers2 · 29/10/2023 17:55

I don't feed my cat at specific times, should i be? She gets 3 x wet food a day plus access to dry food all day. I just feed her when she shouts at me! 🙈

Onthegrid · 29/10/2023 17:57

My 6pm tea was done at 5pm as there was a noisy queue in the kitchen and it has been a cold wet day here so early (on/-time) tea was a highlight.

Tomorrow it will be 5:30 at the earliest as I am in the office.

If I fed on demand my large cat would be ginormous.

They get dried biscuits twice a day, enough for complete nutrition and if they empty the bowl it’s tough. Plus a small tin of wet at tea time.

AnnaMagnani · 29/10/2023 18:04

If I fed my girl on demand she'd be the size of a tiger! A tiger made of 98% fat.

War nearly broke out this morning between my two, such was the distress at the change of breakfast time.

DRS1970 · 29/10/2023 18:08

Ours were the same. Lol

Doyouthinktheyknow · 29/10/2023 18:12

So I got all confused with the time and woke Dcat up at what I thought was 18:30 thinking she was late for supper.

Dcat was more on it than me or DH, it was only 17:30, the one clock that didn’t automatically change confused the humans🤣🤣

So we’ve all eaten early😻

crimsonlake · 29/10/2023 18:24

My cat's obviously paid no heed to the clocks going back an hour as they both stood outside the bedroom door this morning making a right racket...I was so looking forward to an extra hour in bed!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/10/2023 22:03

Ours get fed at 6am by DH , he unlocks their cat door , they go out , come in eat and get on with their day .
DH and I have been away so DD (adult) has been getting up at 6.15am to feed them, DS does the evening

Yesterday they were raging as she had a LIE IN till 7.20
This morning the were incadescent as she woke at 6.45 but they knew it was 7.45 .

Oddly enough when the clocks go forward they never ever say "Nah , it's okay , you can leave it for now"

Animals like routine , it makes them secure .
I know big cats in zoos are not fed every day , they wouldn't kill every day . Tigers are the last word in Judgey

On of mine was fed on demand because he'd wait until I was at work and then go and demand food from his regular old ladies in the neighbourhood. He was huge.

Ours decided breakfast was Very Late so went into the utility room and helped themselves….

Shocking how the servants can't drag themselves out of bed on time! I hope you manage to do better tomorrow! Grin

TheBalletCats · 31/10/2023 09:46

@AQuantityOfNaughtyCats
The Ballet Cats managed that trick as Ballet Kittens: their food was moved from the countertop to a cupboard; & after a repeat performance, though that cupboard is now cat-proofed, their food now lives in the understairs cupboard! (It’s just my food I have to worry about them snaffling…)

They absolutely were not on for the routine change that went alongside the clock change. Happily my brother was home; & it was clearly all his fault they were being so cruelly abused. Many & voluble were their complaints to him.

Beamur · 31/10/2023 09:52

Mine are fed on demand and aren't chubby, but not all cats will regulate.
My noisy cat (who went through a phase of waking DD up at 5am for food) gets shut downstairs with a bowl of wet and dry and we all get to sleep.

AnnaMagnani · 31/10/2023 11:40

Mine seem to have got the message, possibly as they had a new flavour cat food today.

Both currently blissed out in tuna heaven.
