My boy is missing

My elderly cat, who only ever stays in the garden, managed to get out of the side gate this afternoon and I haven't seen him since. I've been out several times searching for him but there is no sign of him whatsoever. He only ever goes in the garden and he always comes in at night. It's dark, cold and raining and looking at his empty bed, warm for him by the radiator is making me want to cry. He's only 2.7kg so he's got no fat on him to keep him warm. He's missed his dinner and he's on medication twice a day so he's missed his second dose. I don't know what to do. I've got a toddler in bed now so I can't go out and look for him anymore. I keep opening the front and back doors and shouting him but he isn't coming. I don't really know why I'm posting I know no one can help, I just don't know what to do.

Sorry to hear that, do you have a local Facebook page or something where you could put a photo or description and ask people to keep an eye out, check sheds, garages etc?

MegaBlox6 · 28/10/2023 21:10

Yes, I've posted on Facebook but I don't expect anyone will be out and about see him until tomorrow. I really hope he's found some shelter somewhere, it is absolutely pouring down here

Can he get back into the garden- I can appreciate you need to keep it secure so probably don’t want to leave the gate open.
Lots of people advice leaving some of their litter out but maybe your old boy doesn’t use a tray?

Our old cat went missing, DH and I went off in the pouring rain to look. Hours later she came back bone dry . She’d been hiding in NDN house with their cat.

Our current boy has gone awol twice, he’s very nervous so you can imagine how worried we are. He saunters back 14 hours later after much shaking of Dreamies tubs and rattling tins.

Theres no point me saying “don’t worry cats can look out for themselves “ because you WILL worry . I know I do.
Hopefully he’ll find somewhere dry . There’s a risk he’s been locked in a shed or similar.

Can you take a flashlight round the garden see if you can spot anything ?

DH put missing posts on our local FB , try not to give too much detail in case you get someone mercenary wanting a reward and they don’t even have your cat .

He's back! I went out to give him one last shout and close the gate late last night and he came running into the house. He was absolutely soaking and hungry but otherwise OK. I gave him a rub with a towel to dry him off and bit, he ate then got straight into his bed, purring away.

Oh that is great news.
The dirty little stop out 😉

Maybe he was stuck somewhere but you won’t know because he won’t spill !

Aww nice to read a happy ending! Glad he’s okay 😊lots of treats and cuddles needed

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. I'm so relieved he didn't spend the night out somewhere. He seems unscathed by the experience today, he's off pottering round the garden as usual. I've triple checked the gate is locked so we don't have a repeat of yesterday.
