Her coat very occasionally twitches and she occasionally scratches behind ear? She's been having a advocate and had last dose on 2nd Oct however... I'm not sure dh does it properly?

We've been away only 5 nights and she's got little black things all over her 😭😱.
I've given advocate again is there anything else I shoud do and maybe it's something else??

Sounds like them.
They have been a nightmare to treat on my dogs this year. None of the usual stuff has worked and had to get expensive tablets off vets.

Drenchend · 28/10/2023 22:10

Oh no!!. We have been on vets plan using advocate.

At what stage do I need to contact vets

Arghhhhhhh!!,cat isn't really scratching. Not pants.

Yep, sounds like fleas. They're really bad this year.

You'll need to treat the whole house and any other pets as well.

Helenahandkart · 28/10/2023 23:53

If you can see them on her that it sounds like you have a major infestation.
You need to treat your whole house with a spray. The spray cans only do about a room and an half each, so even if the reviews say a can does a whole house they don’t. You need a few. And wash bedding etc at 60*.
I don’t know about advocate, but we use Bravecto Plus for our cat every three months and never have a problem with fleas.

Drenchend · 29/10/2023 07:43

@margotrose we only have one cat.

I've not visibly seen anything moving though?

Just these slim black things. We have ferral cats outside...

We have had her a year and never seen anything.. But now she's covered??

Can you take a picture? Can you see eggs and flea dirt as well as actual fleas?

There are other conditions cats can get as well - mites, for example, but they should be treated by the same medication as fleas.

bullseyeboat · 29/10/2023 08:15

Does she go outside?

Drenchend · 29/10/2023 10:37

Yes she does... Only few hours every day.

Will try and take pic.

For the amount of black on her she's not scratching much if at all...

I've not seen live flea.

I've sprayed indorex on her cat tree and main cushion, I'm washing sofa throws at 60. But I can't do our main rugs until Wednesday when we are all out. My dd is 10 and gets allergy issues so I'm loathe to spray whilst she's here and has cold already.

On Wednesday I will spray main rugs and whole room.

Have you got a flea comb? If she’s got fleas on her you should be able to snag a couple if you comb down her spine.

AutumnFroglets · 29/10/2023 10:59

If the cat is covered then please take her back to the vets, she must be miserable.

Also don't give her the flea treatment before she is due, it is a poison and you can harm her by overdosing.

Some flea treatments no longer work in some areas, a vet can advise.

Drenchend · 11/11/2023 17:12

So it's definitely fleas.. I've been brushing and brushing her.
Vets (not actual vet) said advocate is prescription grade stuff and should definitely work.
But I've definitely seen live fleas.
Next step is something beginning with b and also does ticks?

dylanschicken · 11/11/2023 17:23

You will need to treat you whole house it's going to be infested at this stage. It's been weeks since you posted Sad

Drenchend · 11/11/2023 22:07

@dylanschicken

I'm sprayed her bedding and cat tree and started combing about 2 days ago but didn't see anything live till yesterday.

We've sprayed kicking room and started to wash.
The vet keeps saying once the fleas bite her they will die. They said its the weather, hot then cold and hot?.

But obviously it's not working because she's got fleas on her.

So how else do we stop them. She's not used to wearing a collar but my childhood cat used to wear a collar.

🤣🤣 Kicking room...we are so well off we don't only gave present wrapping room but also rooms for just kicking.

. Living room.

Helenahandkart · 11/11/2023 23:29

Bravecto?

Helenahandkart · 11/11/2023 23:32

You need to spray everything. Carpets, sofa cushions, mattresses. All round the edges of the rooms. Several cans of spray - regardless of what the reviews say you can’t do a whole house with one or two cans.

Flea collars are a bit pointless. Keep combing the fleas out, and get some Bravecto.
