Petplan insurance

Looking at insuring our 7 Yr old cat, Petplan seems to be recommended by all the rehoming centres Ive used over the years, but their quote is the most expensive by far. Petplan say it’s because they guarantee not to put the yearly premium up if you have had to claim. I had a bad experience many yrs ago of an insurance company who did just that, and in the end it became too expensive to continue, and it put me off using cat insurance since. But vet costs are so high now I’m considering it for this cat.

Has anyone had experience of making a claim with Petplan, and finding their premium increases really did just reflect that the pet was now a year older ? Thanks.

We have made quite a number of claims with Petplan (cat with chronic illness), and our premium had only gone up by about £1 a year. I have to say for us they’ve been worth every penny. The vet claims direct with them, we get texts and emails to tell us what’s happening and claims are paid to the vet quickly.
