Weight loss/kidneys

My poorly boy has lost a lot of weight the past few weeks.
He was always so confident, wanting to go out or under my feet when I came home with shopping bags.
We adopted him in lock down....he was found as a stray age 8. He's my first pet as an adult and this may sound awful but I didn't realise how much I loved him til now that I'm terrified I'm going to lose him.
We took him to the vets and they took bloods. He's excessively drinking, not really eating, isolating him, cowering if we go to stroke him and drooling.
They said thyroid problems or kidney and will get back to me in the week .
Read about cats and kidney problems and it doesn't look good.

Unfortunately it's not good. But it may not necessarily be that.

My lovely old cat had the same symptoms. She had Stage 3 kidney failure, but had 3 good years before we had her put to sleep at 14.
I found Tanya's CKD website to be very good, full of info, but reassuring in many ways.
I hope you have good news.

Thank u for the replies.
Unfortunately he went downhill really quickly and it was his kidneys.
Took him to the vet again, his levels for where 5 times higher than should have been for something...I can't remember because so upset.
Feel devastated but know deep down I made the right decision because he was in pain 💔 x

Oh Molls, I am so sorry.I know what it's like to have a cat with kidney problems.
You did the right thing. It probably doesn't feel like it at the moment, but in time it will get easier.
Take care, you couldn't have your poor boy in pain.
💐💐

Sending all my sympathy, you absolutely did the right thing but I know how painful it is. The emotional toll of losing a pet is enormous. We lost our prev cat a few mths ago and are just now settling in a new lady. You never get over the sadness of losing them but in time you begin to focus more on the love and joy you shared and feel very grateful that you had the experience of having them in your family. Take care and sending ❤️ and 💐 for the coming days.
