Cat growling and in pain

Our 8.5yo male isn't well - he's been to the vet this morning but they didn't really seem to know what was wrong with him as typically he got there and showed no signs of pain 🙄

He refused to come out of his box this morning (where he always sleeps) and when I tried to pick him up he growled and spat which isn't like him. He's peed this morning but I haven't seen him poo - but it's hard to keep track with three cats. He's indoor only so hasn't picked up anything hunting.

The vet checked him over and said apart from being overweight she couldn't really see any problem apart from a raised temperature. He's had painkillers and antibiotics - back home and he was growling again and went to hide in a corner.

We have two other cats who are both absolutely fine. Any ideas? Photo for tax!

Update - after refusing his breakfast he's just eaten his lunch 🙄

So who knows what is/was going on! Cats 🙈

Mine did similar and was constipated. Took away dry food for few days and just fed wet.

She was growling at me so much I thought she had been hit by a car. Turns out she had just been pigging out x

If he has a raised temperature he may just not be feeling great and want to be left alone?

margotrose · 21/10/2023 12:22

Ha @queencrunch that wouldn't surprise me - he is a greedy bugger Grin

You're probably right @Paddleboarder it's just so unusual for him as he's never once turned down a meal in the six and a half years we've had him. I'm happier now he's eaten and had some water.

Presumably just wanted you to part with your hard earned cash.

margotrose · 21/10/2023 17:49

Ha - the vet said he was envious as our kitten was neutered on Wednesday and he wanted a day out too Grin

I do think he's a bit sore - starting to think it's a bit of arthritis/joint paint as he's been a bit reluctant about jumping up etc. for a few days now. Going back for another check on Monday as he's still not happy about his hips being touched.

Well, I've just been shouted at for not feeding him quickly enough so I assume he's feeling better Hmm

I'm still taking him back for a proper check of his back and hips though as I do think he's struggling with jumping and getting in and out of his tray.
