Can I get a cat with looped carpet?

I've seen a thread like this on here before, but with me, I'm not really concerned with the cat damaging the carpet. What I'm concerned with is whether or not the cat will injure itself with the nails getting caught in the loops of the carpet. Thankfully, my carpet doesn't have very long loops and they're bunched pretty close together, but I'm still not sure. Can just trimming the cats nails properly suffice? Thanks!

The cat will shred the carpet. The nails will be fine if you keep them short. I really wouldn't buy looped. It'll look awful very quickly.

When we recarpeted the house, we were advised not to get looped carpet, because of the cats.

Our carpet isn't even that looped and this is what one of mine did to it as a kitten.

Honestly, it won't just get damaged, they will destroy it.

We've got looped carpet and it's absolutely fine. DCat ignores it. Perhaps we've just been lucky.

Nope but you can get one with fur.

It depends on the cat. Some cats cba to destroy anything others revel in it.

Not if you wnat it to stay looped.

We had looped before we got the cat (she was an adult not a kitten tbf) and it's been fine. She scratches if we shut her out of a room we are in and she wants to come in though, which if it went on for long would probably damage it.

We bought a looped rug without thinking about it! Dcat who does not scratch anything loves it, digs her claws in, has a good old pull at it! Never again🤣🤣

It wasn’t expensive so we don’t care and have learned our lesson.

Thanks for that....there is now wine liberally sprayed across my front room and a bemused cat!

You might get lucky and get a cat that prefers vertical scratching. In which case the carpets are fine but your sofa is toast.

fetchacloth · 18/10/2023 20:12

Sorry but any carpet is nectar to a cat. 😩

My cat likes vertical and horizontal scratching. I'm fucked.🙄
