Are they any good? If so which one do you use. I really want them to stop licking the taps.

What beauties! Love their coats ❤️😂

I bought a cat mate water fountain. Cat refuses to use it and still meows every morning after breakfast for me to turn the cloakroom cold tap on so she can jump up and have a drink 😂

She did sniff it a few times and even had a few laps when it was new but shows no interest whatsoever now. It’s essentially an ugly water feature 😂

I had a cheap one of Amazon and my cats loved it. That broke and I got a Catit pixie. Cats like it but I'm not as keen on it. Have you tried getting them to drink out of cups or glasses?

ExplodingCarrots · 25/09/2023 14:41

It's all down the the cat in my experience. We bought one for ours and he still chose to drink out of the pond and puddles . So we gave it away. My friends cat loves theirs though . We got ours from Amazon .

Adorable pics Smile

ITA. I bought it, because one cat only drank running water. I worried about what happened to him on hot days, when we were out. His sister had about three drinks in five years. Now we have the drinking fountain, both of them drink regularly from it!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/09/2023 17:34

We bought a Catit flower for Basil after he had a urinary problem. Basil (inevitably) never uses it, however Sybil absolutely loves it, drinks from it multiple times per day and paws it when it's off to make us turn it on for her.l

I've got a cat fountain but can't remember which one. Bought if off Amazon.
Previously to that, cat just had a bowl of water and never seemed to touch it but she does go to the fountain.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 26/09/2023 18:41

What an adorable pair!

I have a 'water cooler' style watering device for my cats.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/09/2023 19:04

Ours likes the soapy water in the shower tray after we've had a shower.

Catsmere · 27/09/2023 22:35

I have a Petsafe Drinkwell, big ceramic one. A bit fiddly to clean (weekly disassemble, monthly change of filters, which are a bit pricey in $AU) but a good, reliable fountain. I bought it for the same reason, my previous cat loved drinking from the tap and my mother kept turning it on for her - not good when you're on tank water!

tootsierubs · 27/09/2023 22:44

We bought a stainless steel one from Amazon for about £20. Cats love it, easy to clean as it can go in the dishwasher. Definitely worth it in my opinion as I don't want the cats to keep getting in the sink.

MonumentalLentil · 28/09/2023 18:25

Over the years I have bought many fountains. Started with a Catit Dome which worked for the cat but was a fiddly bastard to clean and re-assemble. Then a Catit Fresh & Clear which was even worse and it leaked as well if you didn't manage to push it together. Had a few of those, because cats liked them but in the end my patience ran out.

CatMate/PetMate was good, as it could go in the dishwasher but cats didn't like it. You also need to ensure that you don't use scented detergent with plastic ones as it puts them off, it doesn't come out of the plastic. Gave that one away.

I have a lovely one from Germany, handmade pottery, but it's a sod to clean as it has a plastic tube that goes green and needs cleaning with a brush. I won't post a link unless anyone wants one. It's like the ceramic Trixie ones which are a knock off copy but much easier to use.

I currently have a Trixie ceramic one which comes in cat or dog sizes, and it is good, and a stainless steel one which is also good except when it is washed and the steel smells of wet dog. I will mention that I do not use scented products for anything so it is washed in unperfumed detergent.

This is the Trixie Vital Flow one, I would buy it again, mine is white, not beige and it was from Ebay at a very good price.

Mine wouldn’t use the fountain.
I rarely see her drink out of her water bowls either, although occasionally I’ve seen her go to drink out of the toilet!

TidalShore · 30/09/2023 22:49

My cat never really drunk out of her water bowl, so I got her a fountain to try. So she started drinking out of her water bowl then. Never seen her use the fountain 🙄

I've said it for years - never underestimate feline perversity!

Just to prove that some cats really do use a drinking fountain (and tell me when to turn it on).

Our furry master loves this one and when we can't find him the best way of summoning him is to turn it off and he comes running in! He looooooves joining in with refilling it and especially likes playing in it before the flower goes back on. Having said that he still likes sitting in the sink, eating soap suds, licking the shower and drinking out of puddles... He also likes his water bowl as long as cold filtered water from the fridge is used Grin

Jayinthetub · 01/10/2023 08:36

This one!!

Our cat loves his.
He is a house cat, he wouldn't drink out of a bowl because that's common 🙄 he would wake me up in the middle of the night wanting the tap turned on so he could have a drink.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 01/10/2023 21:46

I had a mad moment when DH was in hospital and I was stressed to my eyeballs. I bought Dcat a very expensive fancy water fountain with Bluetooth connection to your phone and the fucker never used it!!

We don’t talk about it, it’s just tucked away in the loft at the moment. Dcat is a shit bag that never uses anything bought for her except a cardboard box with scratcher in the bottom, so no idea why I thought she would use this. I really do blame stress! Should have bought some random shit for myself instead🤣

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 03/10/2023 19:47

Well, we got the Catit flower fountain. 3 minutes in, the Golden Child (Velcro) had has a little play and a nice long drink. The Twat (Jemima) on the other hand has pulled it apart twice, pulled the filter out 3 times and has pulled the flower stalk off twice. The worktop is drenched and I think half a litre of water has ended up on the floor with her flicking it.

So yeah, mixed results so far.

She is so cute!

VeryQuaintIrene · 03/10/2023 20:14

I used to have one and one of my cats adored it, but when we brought a teenage tabby into the mix he used to love to vandalize it and we'd come home to its component parts and water strewn all over the kitchen, so our poor cat who loved it was deprived of it.
