Very anxious new kittens

We got two British Shorthair kittens few days ago, they're just over 10 week old. They are so so scared they have just hidden since coming to us only eating a tiny amount when we've put the food in their hiding space (behind a floor length curtain)

All I've read says to leave them alone (I'm sitting in the same room and talking to them on and off) but a couple of cat owners have said it's best to try to handle them if we can. I'm just so scared of traumatising them by doing the wrong thing!

Any advice? We bought a Feliway plug-in today to see if that helps

I got a 10 week old kitten yesterday and we have been taking turns to sit quietly in lounge or dining room and let him explore in between hiding behind furniture
I didn’t attempt to pick up or stroke him at all
Last night he sniffed DS leg
Today I’ve been up since 6.30 when we heard him crying
Finally rewarded as he’s got braver and this afternoon joined me
keep at it - it may take longer as they have each other
We provided a soft toy which can be heated in microwave for company
